First Video: Standing Calf Raises 30 Plates

My first video.. Recorded by my girl.. So i apologize.. She didn't get the whole set.. Most of it.. And she was moving around too much.. I love doing calf raises on this machine.. I get a great feel.. I try to take 5 seconds to come down and i have not been going all the way down.. Just about parallel as per recommendations on here.. I've been seeing good progress that way.. I got 14 reps..

Sorry mate, but that form will NOT get you big calves.
 
Dude you don't need that much weight for calves. Biggest calves I see are on soccer players and most don't do any specific work targeting them with weights. I never seen anyone doing that much. Most I see is 800-1200 pounds usually left on after leg presses and maxing out for as many reps. Then some more specific target work with lighter weight and other exercises.
 
Roll up the sweats next time and then we can know for sure whether or not it's working for you.
 
You loaded all those damn plates on that machine just to film a set of calf raises? Hell, that's way more impressive than the actual set

to load all them plates is a work out, thats the 1st thing i thought. to take out the camera and film that in a gym is crazy. i know people with huge calves and never touched a weight in there life, they are calves. i'm not sure if your kidding
 
A lot of weight, and a big waste of time. Deep stretching during the reps will produce bigger calves. That's too short a range of motion. Use a seated calve machine and stretch those buggers as much as you can. save yourself some time loading all that weight up.
 
I knew i was gonna get flamed.. But i can take it... :D I've done so many things for calves and followed alot of advice (light weight, deep stretch, etc..) Heavy weight is the only thing that has given me adaquate results.. As far as not going for a deep stretch.. Just trying something new advised by one of your leaders Phil... But hey.. Maybe my form still isn't right.. It's one thing to feel like ur doing good form... Then tape urself and find out your not.... As far as all the weight.. Didn't take long to load.. And somehow i don't think im getting all the load on me.. but i don't know where else to add weight.. But i love the feel of the exercise.. So i will continue to do it.. The weight is manageable.. The only thing i can think of.. Is that im not going high enough on my toes.. And maybe could concentrate on going down slower... Any instruction is appreciated..

thanks for posting the video. I was pretty impressed by the sheer amount of weight and if it is working for you, go with it. Personally, i go higher up on my toes and a bit deeper, but different things work for different people.

I'm in the same boat. Tried just about all types of training for calves and have had wonderful mass gains by not going past neutral. The stretch seems to go more after the solus and lower tendon then the gastrocnemius on me. I have very high calves so I don't know it's that's part of it.
 
Nice lift, any way you look at it thats alot of weight. incidentally my calvs responded great to something similar, range of motion was the same but i use a smith machine and feet right on the floor. if it works go with it.
 
i didnt see anything wrong with that ... calves are genetic IMO anyways.

I agree, i watch videos of the pro's and have trained with some pretty big guys and a lot of them use partial reps and limited range of motion. It works for them so they go with it. I think that you gotta find what works for you and go with that.....btw tattered, awesome deadlift.
