I was watching the news, and a cardiac doctor was saying that you shouldn't buy over the counter fish oils.
She went on to say that new research says if you're healthy, fish, oils can be bad for your heart, but if you're unhealthy and have heart issues, you should take prescription fish oil, that's higher in concentrations for heart health. Lol huh?

She talked about otc supplements not being regulated and often filled with other ingredients.
And that prescription fish oil doesn't have mercury in it.

edit: "bad for your health " lol I couldn't fix the subject.

I’m sure you could create some super obscure unique complex scenario where fish oil wouldn’t be beneficial, but of course you can do that with anything.

In general it is incredibly safe to say taking a quality fish oil is beneficial for health.

Some fish oils can turn rancid - highly oxidative breaking down into aldehydes and/or peroxides. Which, theoretically could increase free radicals causing havoc systematically. Sure there's some truth to it.

I'd suggest looking for brands that are IFOS-certified.

I think from memory a person would need about 6 grams of fish oil to equal the 4 grams in the prescription formula. My primary Dr now thinks omega 3's are a waste of time after 30 year of recommending them. He thinks saturated fats are healthier. Can't say i agree. I figure every thing has a level where it is optimal. The fish oil i have taken for decades is third person tested for what ever that is worth. I did date a woman that was a nurse that started taking fish oil then started having low BP and slower heart rate. But that is a rare condition. I tend to look at what is best for longevity as opposed to to just one factor of health.

I would say fish oil is one of the more lax areas in terms of dietary supplements. There is some truth to this, but it doesn’t mean ALL are bad or that you should overpay for pharma fish oil.

Only buy from reputable brands that have varied COA’s, third party testing AND stability testing. Just because they add vitamin e to the blend does not mean it’s stable.

lol bro, big pharma mainly Pfizer has been sponsoring most news stations since Covid. The same people that want to ban NAC, they would love for people to stop taking these things

Never trust a “doctor” with general health.
There is insane amount of research that state how insanely valuable fish oils are. I don’t even know how it’s up for debate.

Either Wiley’s or Nordic Naturals are what I try to use. Both have some really solid high EPA options, too.

How about Omega XL? John Walsh said it changed his life.
