Hey everybody. I recently was introduced to Fitzmaurice Voicework by a theater professor at my university. Basically the goal of this is to be able to release the muscles in your body to release tension through causing "tremors", deep breathing, and general relaxation. This is used by stage actors to increase the control and quality and prevent damage of their voices on stage. However, one of the benefits I noticed with my training is that once I began to be able to release and actually perform the technique properly my soreness after workouts was noticeably lessened. I have some problems with my upper spine due to a squat gone bad a few years back and after back workouts the pain from the injury really comes to life and one of the techniques pretty much got rid of that problem. The exercise that did this is taking two tennis balls and putting them in a tube sock and placing the balls on either side of your spine and just laying on them. You can move them wherever you feel you need to release tension and if you do it right it can be quite painful at first, but after a few sessions of this my experience is that my traps have loosened up a lot and feel great both in and out of the gym. There are other techniques as well for other body parts but I just though I would share this one since it has helped me tons.
