Followup Doctor's Visit - Kinda Scary/Weird

I was JUST diagnosed with an umbilical hernia. How long should I stay away from training?? I am getting the surgery scheduled up tomorrow. Is cardio on a treadmill ok??

Looking for help from the people who have gone through it before!!

Thanks!

Cardio is fine. You can continue training up to the time of your operation. After the operation, you will be advised not to train for a few weeks (time varies depending on surgeon). One caveat to training before your hernia is repaired; if you should develop pain in the umbilical region or if a lump "pops" out and does not go back in (or is difficult to push back in), cease training until after the hernia is repaired.

I WAS ADVISED TO NOT DO ANY LIFTING ETC...

FOR A MONTH. I DID WHAT THEY SAID AND TOOK IT EASY. I WAS IN NO HURRY TO HAVE ANOTHER OPERATION. I AM GLAD I LET THE DANG THING HEAL PROPERLY.

It felt better this morning, ie - less tender and less swollen, but it I can still feel it out alittle. I stopped lifting Sunday so I will probably wait until I get the operation..should be later this week. I also found out my father has the same thing last night and he has had it for 5 years now without complications, but he also isn't into weight training at all.

BTW, I am involved in a bowling league every Thurs night. Should I nix that until a month post op??

Thanks guys!!

Just found out that I am only getting the initial appt this week..that sucks. It's this friday.

So if it's a little tender and a smallish type lump ( maybe ths size of a nickel ) at the site, should I just do my cardio or can I lift, but stay away from deads and squats and obviously ab exercises??

Lifenatty.....if you are asking me...yes, after the operation I took it easy.

Hope all you guys come out all right on your operations!
