A discussion on the sports radio got me thinking about this. One host was going to an event and the other asked him to take pictures of the food there and he basically said"no that's stupid"

Maybe Im old but I agree, it got me thinking about what I see on social media and forums too.

I can see if someone is a chef and promoting what they make, but why do people take pictures of their food for others and why do people enjoy looking at it? Is this common outside of the fitness world? In my experience I don't see my non-fitness friends taking pictures of their meals.

I'm absolutely a layman's foodie. Don't have the resources or talent to brag about five star, Michelin star food, but I love to elevate otherwise common fare. I've seen some pretty talented guys here. As for me, I'm just a home cook offering decent food..

I struggled for so long trying to figure out the food part of this thing…🙂

For us, food is love, food is life. Food connects cultures who may have difficulty connecting, otherwise. It's an international language and, as it's best, binds us all together

I made this for lunch, baked chicken and I baked the potatoes also.

it wasn't meant to get "food porn" more so talk about how it even became a thing?

Before the internet did people look at tasty food in magazines? The whole concept seems odd like its a trend and I haven't seen it outside the fitness. Like people that eat what they want and don't diet I don't see them partaking in "food porn" and sharing images of their food with others and getting compliments on it.

IMO food is mean't to be ate, you cook it, you eat it, you cook more eat more, never thought to take a pic of something that I just made to make disappear in my stomach.

If that’s how you feel about food, then you’re doing it wrong

Google tells me the Food Network has been a thing since 1993. While there are instructional and competition aspects to the programming, some of the appeal is definitely just looking at the food they cook.

Social media and smartphone has made that even more popular among all populations.

Personally, I have zero interest in most average people’s food porn posts and don’t care to post any of my own food. I’d rather watch something higher quality and well-produced. ‘Studio’ food porn vs ‘amateur’ food porn if you will 😂

9 times out of 10 they're posting a cheat meal just for the cognitive dissonance and mystery (to civilians) of looking so good but eating shit foods. A shredded bodybuilder about to down 4 burgers and 4 large fries gets a lot more attention than a shredded bodybuilder eating another serving of chicken and rice.

I like to see people’s recipes and chef skills of course , but calling it “food porn” is kinda weird lol.

You must have been living under a rock QB 😂

Social media (of non-fitness people) are filled with pictures of their meals and have been so for years already. It's a highly annoying trend but it is a widespread trend and has been for a while 😉
