So, I been snoring for a while. Actually can be loud at times. My old Doctor recommended me to a specialist for sleep study. I had one day and they told me I have sleep apnea. Next visit they want to fit me for a mask. They put it on my face and I said I couldn't sleep with it on. Well, then they came out with one that just goes around nose. I immediately took that thing off and told them I thought I was suffocating. There was no way I could sleep with anything like that around my nose. 6 months later I get a new Doctor due to change of health plans. I like this guy, he actually listens when I tell him something. I told him about sleep apnea and he suggest before I did another sleep study, to get a ear, nose and throat specialist to examine me. He examines me and told me I have a severe deviated septum, basically it is collapsed. I had this for years and not one Doctor look at it. My nose is actually crooked from it. Hard to breath at night through nose passages which leads to snoring. Anyways, I had the surgery yesterday. I was prescribed Tylenol 3 with codeine, but I felt no pain at all, just some swelling of nose. I didn't even need to take regular tylenol. So, I have these 2 splints in my nose until next Tuesday, then back to gym and hopefully less snoring. Moral of the story: It pays to find the underlying issue.

Hey buddy:cool: I've heard mixed reviews from those getting the deviated septum surgeries, but hopefully it works out for ya in the long run. I'll have to get your doctor's name (and ENT) just in case for in the future if it works out for you. I don't usually get sleep apnea/snoring much except when my weight gets too high and/or I am out of shape. That's a pretty quick recovery, so that's pretty cool.

Maybe some other members can post their experiences if they've had it done???

I don't have sleep apnea, but I saw a commercial the other day for a surgically implanted device that gives an alternative to wearing a cpap. https://www.inspiresleep.com

Getting a CPAP was the best thing to happen to me in the past decade

I couldn't wear a CPAP. It would dry the fuck out of my throat. I even got that humidifier thing to help. It didn't. Next step is to get this deviated septum surgery. It was actually kind of wild, the doc put one of those mini throat depressers in my nose and said take a breath, it was like night and day just from that. It just opened everything up. I know I need to try the surgery, just been putting it off. Every girl who sleeps in my bed tells me the next day they were worried I was dying. My sleep apnea is that bad. The doc told me if the nose surgery doesn't work the next step is where they shave the back of your throat. Eeeeeek.

I believe my cpap saved my life. I had the same feeling with the under nose pillows at first. I ripped it off my face asap the first time now it's the only mask I'll use. My doctor did have a talk with me about having a surgery to fix my mouth pallet...it's too narrow so they wanted to crack it open and widen it. Fuck that.
Glad to hear you got your issue dialed in, though.

I heard people snore due to having a soft pallet in the throat too.

I used Gary Zerlin. He has great reviews all over the place. He told me point blank it might need relieve all of it, but it will help a bunch. But this is the main reason why I thought I was suffocating trying to wear a nose cpap. My deviated septum was also very bad. It cause my nose to be crooked to one side, basically collapsing.

How long did you have to wait to see Zerlin, he is pretty popular and I know he had a long wait list in the past. Yea, i'm hoping it works for ya buddy, hope you've been well:)

For me... anything new like wearing something on my face is going to take some time to adapt to. I felt like I was suffocating for about the first week when I first got BIPAP machine and mask but I kept at it because the fact is it wasn't suffocating me and I had to remind myself of this constantly, it was just the anxiety but you can adapt and over come this if you desire and work at it. I would just put mine on and watch tv or read for 10 or 15 minutes and worked my way up and eventually had no problem at all sleeping with it on, actually sleep much better with it. I have central and obstructive sleep apnea. I've been using mine for going on 2 years and it actually helps with keeping my hemoglobin in range, memory improved, energy improved, erection quality improved, amongst several other improvements. I believe if used properly it can add years to your life and improve health.

Good news. In my case, I couldn't breathe right with it on. But now I know why I was having problems with it at least and corrected that.

It didn't take too long, but he doesn't use a few insurances. I had to wait a few months to get special approval from him and insurance. You might want to call to see what type of insurance they take.

Yes sir and hopefully that resolves the issue for you entirely. Best wishes to you

When I first started wearing mine I took it off every night in my sleep. I set up a camera with nightvision to record myself. Literally in my sleep I would raise my head, pull the mask off and then gently drop it in the floor next to my bed. All of this while completely asleep, no memory of it at all. Ha ha ha. I just kept putting it on and eventually I would wear it until I woke up. You just have to keep wearing it. Eventually you get use to it.

Yes sir, we can adapt to damn near anything if we just try, don't panic, stay consistent, have the desire, or simply have to...

A little off topic and I mean this with no disrespect to anyone but sometimes we just gotta suck it up, embrace what is, make the best of it, and rebuild from there. I'm grateful for everything I have and have been through, the good and the bad. This is what builds character and grit my brothers and sisters... Nearly everyone has the ability!

I have severe obstructive sleep apnea and it truly sucks. My CPAP is a life saver. The doc said I was really only getting two hours of sleep a night (while I thought I was getting 8). It's more than snoring being the issue. You literally stop breathing 100's of times a night and your brain kicks in it's safety switch saying "breathe dumb shit or your going to die". That oxygen deprivation whenever that happens is literally killing brain cells. Also, if you've been drinking alcohol or for just no reason at all, that safety switch may not turn on and you literally die in your sleep. I hate sleeping with the CPAP machine as much as the next man, but I hate dying much more. Also, the surgeries don't have a high success rate. Also, I'm not down with them opening my chest and putting something in that literally looks like a pacemaker (F that). The CPAP machine, as much as it sucks (if dialed in correctly with the proper pressure setting) works literally 100% of the time.

Couldn't have said it better myself.
