I was reading some posts pertaining blood pressure, so I thought to give this little advice.

If you are doing it by yourself at home:

1- Buy a decent BP monitor with a cuff that will comfortably fit your upper arm.
2- Before you take your BP, sit down quietly with no movement for about 5 minutes.
3- When you press the Start button, do not make any sudden movements, as the tiniest movement might screw the readings.

4- do the same for standing BP (stand still for couple of minutes first)

Normal blood pressure should be around 130/70 with a heart rate no more than 90, HR is preferable below 90.

5- people will have different bp through out the day, so take 3 times, and average them out.

If you have consistently high BP, see a doc asap, high bp will lead to strokes and other shit.

Avoid sodium or minimize sodium intake if your bp is high.

Good post. My doc wants me at 120/70.
I was also told the size of the cuff makes a huge
difference in readings. Bodybuilders/athletes should probably use
a larger cuff.

Yes, if the cuff is too tight, it will screw up the readings.
120/70 is very good BP, but if you are slightly higher in the 130 zone, it's still good.

Anyone ever had any luck with OTC blood pressure meds? I tried hawthorn berry once and it didn't really help, although I could never find any info on dosage, so I may have been taking too little.

My BP is genetically high also.. I average around 150/90.. Im trying the natural remedy route before i succomb to OTC meds.. Anyone have a good brand for BP monitor??

i'm 130/80 now, not that bad but still bugging me, i swear a new girl will bring it right down, being single is stressful as fuck to me

I have had some docs say the wrist monitors are better for larger individuals... actually had one doc use that in office before on me...

my advcie is to learn how to maunally take your BP with the cuff and a stethoscope. It is quite easy and much more accurate. Anyone can learn how to do it. THose automated cuffs were always inaccurate on me, but maybe they have improved recently. I personally do not trust them and still do mine maually. I think there is a reason that they still do it manually at the doctor's office. Those automated cuffs just arent as accurate, even the ones at the docs and you probably figure those are better than the ones you use at home.
