Wanted to share an interesting article I found about African bodybuilders that are an example of hard work and love for the sport even though they have so many limitations...

Most of us are guilty of complaining about the equipment in our gyms at one point or another. “Why does this POS gym only have 4 squat racks?!” and so on. If you have enough food to eat and a comfortable place to train, it’s easy to lose perspective. If you think having the best gyms with the best equipment is what it takes to achieve your full potential, get ready for an inspiring dose of reality that’ll hit you like 4 scoops of preworkout. After reading this interview with Kulbila Samson, a 24 year old bodybuilder from Ghana, you’ll have a new appreciation for hard work.

Where do you live?
Kulbila: I am from Ghana, West Africa. I live in the eastern region of Ghana
in a small town called Akropong Akuapim.

**broken link removed**

What kind of workout program do you follow? And where do you get your information about training?
Kulbila: I don’t actually have a specific workout plan I just make sure I train all my body parts within the week. I train from Monday to Friday. Saturdays and Sundays are my rest days.
Can you give me a breakdown of a typical workout, including exercises and sets?
Kulbila: Dips – 5 sets of 15, 15, 12, 10, 8 reps.
Bench press – 5 sets of 20, 15, 10, 8, 6 reps.
Inclined bench - 4 sets of 15, 12, 10, 10 reps.
Decline bench – 4 sets of 15, 12, 10, 10 and I increase weight at every stage of sets.

**broken link removed**

What is your height and weight?
Kulbila: 5’8 tall, weight 87.5kg (193lbs) now. I have reduced a little because I was 88kg due to some sickness but I will bounce back.

**broken link removed**

What are some of your favorite Ghanaian bodybuilding foods?
Kulbila: Garri and beans with fried plantain, banku with grilled fish, yam with nkontomire stew (cocoyam leafs stew), witj melon seeds, pounded yam with green soup with mushroom snails and catfish.

**broken link removed**

Tell me more about that homemade gym in your Instagram photos.
Kulbila: Oh ok, the homemade gym is owned by my friend which is not far from where I live and actually I train at two homemade gyms because both have some equipments that the other gym doesn’t so mostly I swap between them.
Do they have names?
Kulbila: Yes we name the place I started working out as Ala’s Gym, that’s the name of the owner. The second one is called Conan’s Gym, it was also named after the owner.

Do you take any supplements, and if so what kind?
Kulbila: Yes, I have taken supplements like fish oil and multivitamins before and have also tried some creatine before but it wasn’t continuous, a friend just gave it to me to try and that was a very long time ago. And in Ghana supplements are scarce and very expensive so I base [my nutrition] on just the diets.

Do girls in Ghana like your muscles?
Kulbila: Not really. They feel scared because they think musclemen are violent (lol) which is never true.

This is what bodybuilding is all about. 100% genetics. Hard work no BS.

Yeap, Genetics !

you have people doing 2 - 3 grams of roids and yet don't look like that.... they keep thinking they need more, but they don't understand that not everyone is gifted the same way.

Thanks for sharing that.......that guy is impressive. Growing up I trained in a barn and had great workouts with only a bench, dumbbells and a barbell.

He could turn pro in 2 yrs easy if only he had the resources. Amazing specimen

i read a long time ago that African-American males on average have:

...report gives the results of assays of circulating steroid hormone levels in white and black college students in Los Angeles, CA. Mean testosterone levels in blacks were 19% higher than in whites, and free testosterone levels were 21% higher.

Serum testosterone levels in healthy young black and white men. - PubMed - NCBI

...study of healthy young men found that circulating testosterone levels were 15% higher in African-Americans than in whites, Ross said.

that does not explain the subjects in this post unless there is something we are not privy to. (like what we learned in the last week about protein supplement companies not being completely honest)

these statistics go on and on... **broken link removed**

on a non scientific note i once had sexual relations with a black woman. upon her viewing me without clothes she noted "well ain't that cute."

this led me to believe i personally did not have what she was accustomed to. i can only hope this anecdotal evidence can further improve our understanding of why race relations with African Americans - in my opinion is not improving.

This post for entertainment purposes only and not meant to hurt anyone's feelings.

Eating food that isn't pumped full of hormones probably helps a lot too.

Do u really think he's not juicing? First pic the kid has hella stretch marks. He has an Instagram so obviously he has Internet, and he said he tried creatine? That's the lie all of us tell lol. Kid obviously has great genetics, I'm not knockin him at all

I have a african-american friend who has never touched a dumbbell less any ASS and he looks bigger and more ripped than many gym rats who are juicing the hell out of themselves... so YES I do believe he is not juicing... hell it seems the guy has a hard time buying decent food... but of course for us EVERYTHING has to be related to the juice...

when i was in Kenya guys approached me several times to train with them. Mr. Kenya asked me train with him one day when i was on Lamu. he apologized for the primitive equipment before i ever saw it as they made it out of anything they could. the real problem is the diet. protein is very expensive in 3rd world countries, and only the rich can afford to consume large quantities. although the amounts we eat here are totally unheard of there.

He very well may not be, as far as his diet goes I think that's just a cultural thing. He may not be able to buy meat like we do here tho, I can't say because I know nothing about Ghana or their resources

I had crazy stretchmarks from training years before I ever used any anabolics so what makes you certain that he is on AAS?

I never said he certainly was or wasn't. I didn't mean to turn this into one of those threads so I apologize. Kid has great genetics and at this rate he will be a monster in another 10 years

Damn that guy has a great build. Amazing genetics, i doubt he has tried any AAS. He is lean and has thin skin, if he had some supplements and better equipment who knows.

friend of mine is from Accra Ghana, working class family but was competing in national gymnastics there.
androlics and orals are available there. he used them frequently when he got into bodybuilding (even though gyms and equipment is very basic)
but he is genetically very gifted.
shouldn't be able to look like he did on 100mg anadrol alone!

tbf, this guy has an instagram and has been interviewed for an article. if i had to guess id say he's getting some aas but only very basic, probably orals only.

doesn't take away from the fact that he's obviously genetically gifted. also there are studies like shown above where some men from African heritage were tested to have above average androgen levels.
the sprinter Michael Johnson recently made a documentary about it, really interesting - he interviewed many hormonal specialists and geneticists and all seemed to agree that people with ancestry linked to slavery had optimal genetics on a hormonal level for sports performance.

I'd love to watch that... where did you watch it? Thanks.
