that is a cool link. when i was in the combat zone i received a few letters and some care packages from schools or some other organization. It was a really nice feeling to know that others were thinking of you and that Americans were showing support because that is all we really wanted as soldiers.

How do they deal with it?

Casualties. so many more of this kind (see below pics). I can't fathom what these people have to go thru on a daily basis, knowing that this is what happens in these conflicts. I don't think I could stomach it personally if I knew I was involved directly or indirectly. WOW! What kind of treatment do these guys receive for this?

its not easy and alot can't , they are alot of young men who are now realy messed up from seeing things that they can't deal with.

PTSD is a very real and very dagerous problem for troops. I think that you have to be somewhat fucked up in the head to deal with these things and beable to sleep well at night. Some say you get numb to it but at that point I think you have suffed some mental breakdown.

Yes, they call it desensitization. Humans are not born naturally this way. You have to be conditioned to be able to accept it. I'm sure there are exceptions, where people are born without a conscience, but it's rare I'm sure. Anyway, my heart goes out to all affected!

I have friend from college. We are sorority sisters, Delta Zeta. She is stationed in Iraq. I wanted to send her and others in your unit a care package. Once word got out that I was sending them a care package others wanted to help out. Between my family and Everlast's family plus the lunch room staff my mom works with we sent over 7 packages of goodies to her. It had everything from personal care products to candy, hot cocoa, novels, etc. She and the others really enjoyed it.

your right Sassy , its little things we don't even think about here that make a huge differance over their.

good tooth brushes , quality socks , good foot and body powder , moisturizing soap , short books and games. Those little electronic poker games and such are awsome , you can keep them on you and they will take your mind off for a bit.

yes you do get desensitized but it's necessary at the moment because if you let things get to you in the combat zone then you can't do your job and others will die quickly. later on is when it gets bad, when you have time to think or when you leave theater all the things you think you were able to deal with and put behind you can have a profound affect on soldiers.
