Glock 30 vs M P 45c

Pondering buying one or the other. How are they with recoil for shooting at the range? There is a M&P 45c mint for sale at $400. No tax or fees, I cant find a 30 near that.

I have an XD40 sub compact, and a glock 17. So Im not thinking about an XD or a 21. I want something different.

Is there a big difference with recoil between a full sized M&P 45 and a 45c? I have fairly large hands.

$400 is tough to pass on from what I have read is an excellent gun. But if its tough at the range I wont use it. I am a gun pooose'.

The M&P compact is a good gun , any of the subcompacts in 45 can be a hand full (no pun) with hotter loads .
Any time you reduce the mass of a weapon you are going increase recoil. Is it abusive?? It's snappy but not punishing , I can't shoot the subs well at all because if I choke up on the grip the slide bites the shit out of me.
If you are looking for a gun to conceal then I recommend a bit more expensive approach . Take a full size Hlock and have the grip shortened to use the subcompact mags , this keep plenty of mass to tame recoil but has the smaller grip and when trying to hide a pistol the grip is the hardest thing to conceal and the shorter grip helps that

But all in all the M&P , Glock or XD are all fantastic weapons , find one that fits your hand and if it's a bit more expensive wait a couple weeks and buy it later and be happy with what you have.

I'm on the way to the range right now with my new Glock 26. I'm excited, been carrying a CZ-82 which is an older military-police gun. I got the glock because it's getting harder to get 9-18mm rounds.

I have shot about 4000 rounds out of a Springfield Armory loaded 1911. In my opinion if you are looking for a good range gun you cant beat a 1911 45ACP. Tarus makes a great one with a ton of features for a good price. I cant stand any gun with a dual action trigger. i would not want to carry a 1911 but for a range/target gun you wont find a better gun. The gun has good weight and good acuracy.

I got into Pin shooting and used my iron sighted 45acp. Shoot 5 bowling pins off a table from 25'. My best time was 3.96 seconds. My best time with a .22 with a red dot sight was 2.06 seconds. Fun stuff. It is very addicting. the bad part is the guys that would get a fully customized gun with compensator, rediculously light trigger, lightened slide, reduced spring, pud loads and red dot sights. I watched a guy shoot 5 pins off a table with a .45 and do it in 1.96 seconds. When he let me shoot his gun it felt no different than shooting my .22 buckmark.

This is preference. I have glock 22,23,19 and M&P 40 and sub 40. Both are great and handle very well. Never tried 45 in either. I like the trigger on glocks and the reset. M&P has adjustable backstraps for a better fit. Find a place that will let you try one.

The Gen 4 Glocks have the same backstrap feature now. I'll agree with most everyone here that both are excellent weapons, handle well, and are very reliable. It really comes down to preference. The only thing that could tip the scales is if you want to get a bunch of goodies and aftermarket parts for it, there is a much bigger aftermarket support for Glocks.

yeah, I just bought a gen 4 glock 17 and it has I think 2 other sized backstraps that came with it and 3 clips. I guess the older gen didnt have the backstraps or the extra 3rd clip? I think the sales guy said the new gen 4 has a different spring in it or something similar too.

Not a big glock fan have a full size mp 45 but just got the new XDM 40 4.5 best gub i have felt in my hand so far and have a orginal xd also

both are great options. however, if you are considering carrying it concealed I'd go with the smaller option. The Glock 30 is the same thickness as the Glock 21, just with a shorter upper and lower. So the Glock 30 is fat as hell and not comfortable to carry. Not sure about the other option you were talking about. Now, if they are comparable in size I'd spend a little more and get the Glock 30. You could go with the Glock 36 (its a subcompact and part of their "slim line") the only problem is that the rounds are single stacked so you can only carry 6+1.

I've shot the Glock 30s cousin chambered in 10mm auto. It was definetly more of a handfull than my fullsize (model 20) 10 mm. Actually caused some discomfort in my hand which surprised me. Albeit the 10mm auto is one hot little round.

I also have a HK compact .40 which is another sweet little conceal carry gun.

since no mention of carry....why the world looking at compact/sub compacts?? get full size...personally i like shooting standard lane ranges with 1911s, but when able to move around, i like doublestacked with more rounds...can neverrrrr have enough rounds in real world unless it hampers movement....i still love G21....carry the 19 or xd....but nothing touches the kimber at range tho(had it for longggg tiime, woulda built my own 1911 ground up now if i get another)....

gunsmith, i havent really looked for a LONG time...did anyone ever come out with full trigger setup for older XD45 4"???

Any sub compact 45 auto is going to be very heavy on recoil. The best one I have shot so far is the kimber pro carry. Pricey little gun though.I find all the sub compact glocks to be very unconfortable.

I dont know of anybody making a reliable drop in kit for the XD's yet
I shot a XD Tactical in 45 that was fully worked over by these guys **broken link removed**
its trigger was very nice

Call me old school, but I still think that 1911 is THE platform for .45 Auto.
I have one compact (Kimber Pro Carry II) and one subcompact (Para Ordnance Warthawg). Recoil is not bad at all with either of these pistols and they both are a joy to shoot at the range due to having light, crisp triggers.

depends on application...imo, the single stacks, lack capacity in gunfight...unless ur an EXPERT speed reloader and PHENOM world class shot...when targets move full speed even at 20ft, most people that dont train moving at full speed or shooting objects moving at full speed have NO idea how difficult it is....that standing and aiming down the sites on a nice sunny day at the range with proper breathing and taking your time aiming with slow trigger squeeze and feet set all perfect stance is absolutley useless for real world, just good at familiarising yourslef with the basics of how your weapon operates...

and even then unless you have practied alot under stress your not gonna make a tactical reload.
Things are totaly differant when sombody is trying to "kill you back"

I have seen seasoned police officers (that shoot expert every time during qualification and do so under stess) fire 17 rounds across the hood of a car at a guy who was shooting back and neither one hit a damn thing they wanted to and you only talking 6-8 feet max !!
the average gunfight takes place inside 3yds and is over in 3-5 seconds
you shoot somebody 20-25 feet away in a gun fight you have just made the equivalent to a 1000yd sniper shot
