Not much at all - 5g on non training days and 10g on training days (5g doses).
If you are using a whey isolate product, you don't need that much additional glutamine.

I know Author L Rea is somewhat of an impractial idiot, but I've read that he recommends 30-50g a day & said anything else is a waste since it's too low. Do you think it even matters if you take it or not?

I have read both of Reas book sand on paper it kinda makes sense but in the real world it is hard to apply what he says unless all you do is what he says ..eat every 2 hours and take vitamens every 30 minutes and shot your body drugs every 4 hours...take the advice of BIG A...

ALR is no one special, just a med research geek who is doing what he can to set himself up as a guru. All he's done is look up obscure meds in research journals that 'may cause muscle growth' & put it in his cycles. 99.99% of all people will never have access to those esoteric drugs that he recommends or will be able to follow his protocols. I doubt that he's even taken them himself or used them on other people. This way no one knows if he's right or wrong, but it sure makes interesting reading. Look at it this way. He is pushing 50, has no track record, no atheletes that he's trained who've actually acheived anything & just got fired from his column in MD. Guys like Nicholls, Duchaine, Rambod, Aceto etc can easily be called gurus. ALR is just a wannabe. Man, I really miss Duchaine. I wish he was still around.
I don't believe that there's any more need than 10g per day because of the amounts of glutamine from the protein shakes anyway - virtually all of us use protein shakes (whey isolate mostly) that most if not all glutamine requirements are met anyway.
I miss Duchaine too. MikeS has good stories about him
