Got pulled over by a cop!

This seatbelt law is a bunch of shit to just target us daily drivers...Here answer this question...Are there seatbelts in school buses or any freaking buses...NO....Do you have to wear a seatbelt if your in the back of a motor home...NO

These laws are such bullshit.

dude, get over it. if you are in some position of any kind of power I guarantee you will find some way to abuse it to better benefit you especially if you feel you are not getting paid well enough. Stealing Pens from work, printing personal items on business printers are so-called fringe benefits that are wrong also. EVERYONE does this kind of stuff. and people only complain when they can't get the same benefits as everyone around them gets...even if they are in a different career field (which is just like what a baby would do when someone has a toy they want).

I was trying to be nice in my reply. I do take advantage of my position in work at times - I get free medicine from my clinic, free needles, free syringes. Abusing your powers as a cop is COMPLETELY different. I don't have a problem with them using their badge to get free coffee, free donuts, free KFC, whatever. I have a problem if a cop pulls me over and gives me a $100+ ticket for speeding if he is going to turn around and do the same thing himself, then if he gets pulled over use his position to avoid a ticket. That's bullshit. I have a problem with the majority of police officers being egotistical assholes like was mentioned above. If someone is doing 160 in a 100 zone, sure they deserve a ticket. But 120, 130? Not in my opinion. Another example - when I was underage (18, legal age in Canada being 19) a cop gave me a $300.00 ticket for drinking underage and drinking in public. I was at the time in Wasaga Beach, a popular summer weekend getaway here in Ontario, that pretty much the majority of teenagers flock to, to party. I stepped off the trailor park, literally about ten feet with a bottle of Mudslide. Me and my buddy weren't causing any problems, yet she felt the need to ticket us both. She should have been out giving tickets to the hundreds of drug dealers in the vicinity, to the people fighting all along the beach, to the people causing problems and creating noise. I was walking with a friend with some fireworks celebrating Canada day, yet we seemed to be a priority for them. Sure, we were 'breaking the law', but I think any self-respecting officer should have just poured out our alcohol and let us be.

Others are cool. A few weeks ago I was stopped at the lights with a cop beside me. He saw my seatbelt on, and pointed to it to tell me to put it on.

see!
out of my whole time dealing with cops, I found the majority to be great guys. but remember, they can and will reflect back the attitude they get when they pull someone over. it is not about being an asshole and getting away with it, but being an asshole back to someone and getting away with it, which I wish I could do a lot of times.
I only had one bad dealing with a cop.
of course, let's see how you feel working 60+ hours a week in a job where everyone hates you even though they don't know you. Where you have no idea if you are going to die today or tomorrow. And did anyone mention the pay sucks! Hell, military folks get paid a lot better than these guys and only 40% of them are ever in a similar or worse situation.

of course, let's see how you feel working 60+ hours a week

60+ hours a week? Where'd you come up with that?

in a job where everyone hates you even though they don't know you.

I wonder why that is?

Where you have no idea if you are going to die today or tomorrow.

Nope, no cops here..... Who cuts the poor loggers a break when their speeding? What about the roofers?

And did anyone mention the pay sucks! Hell, military folks get paid a lot better than these guys and only 40% of them are ever in a similar or worse situation.

Cops, for the most part can't do anything else. Who else is gonna pay them to be assholes?

hey bro,
I am from cali and I got one of these bullshit tickets earlier this summer--just got my notice as well actually. You can challenge the ticket or just pay it. It is not a moving violation so it won't fuck up your insurance or anything like that.

60+ hours a week? Where'd you come up with that?
Many departments are undermanned lately, and showing up in court cuz someone wants to challenge a ticket is not part of their regular shift

I wonder why that is?

Stereotyping.....

And number eleven (which was so conveniently left out) was Police officers.
sure when you put it that way, but hear this: 11.6 officers per 100,000 die on the job annually compared with 4.0 per 100,000, which is the national average for all occupations.
Police are trained to approach potential threats with overwhelming force, and are outfitted with numerous safety technologies (vests, helmets, etc.) that make their on-the-job deaths much less likely than for, say, lumberjacks. Multiple officers provide backup frequently even for routine traffic stops. And harsh punishment of copkillers -- both ill treatment while in official hands and the threat of capital punishment -- creates dramatic incentives even for the worst bad guys to avoid killing a peace officer.

Cops, for the most part can't do anything else. Who else is gonna pay them to be assholes?
Many do it because it runs in the family. "My dad was a policemen, his dad was a policeman", etc. Family pride.

see above in red for my comments. Not trying to start a fight, but I can't stand it when facts are left out, whether intentional or not.

There would be alot less deaths in those groups

If they were on HRT! Except if you get a few Ben wahs in there LOL.

Seriously, you wear your seat belts because statiscally you have abetter chance odf serviving,

Secondly, who wants cops coming up to the car door anyhow. I don't mind cops at the gym or barbeque but not along side my car or my personal space.

All sources need to wear seatbelts, have all lights working, no expired tags, no guns in the car and don't speed or drive under the influence.

Don't be taking along your methbuddy with a warrant while you do your business errands. It's a one man show with no local involvement.

The other side of it is: that if you are an average joe with no criminal record and playing solo in a way even the wife doesn't really know what you are up to there is no telling what you can accomplish.

This Is My Country!!!

Hmmm.... Okay, let's see, where to start...

As far as police being #11 or #12 (12 is where they were in 2000, BTW) big deal? The fact is they still aren't even in the top ten. 4.3 as a national average? LOL, okay can't argue with that logic - must be dangerous. Too bad not as dangerous timber cutting. If it was, we should pay them 5 times what they make, right?

And here samples of their pay:

This doesn't include "overtime supplement" pay.... But this fact seems to be left out when the cops cry about how little they make. In some reports, such as this one, this "police captain" made $122,000 in overtime (on top of his $85,000 a year). Now who is kidding who?

**broken link removed**

Stereotyping? Maybe we should make police a minority status... That way stereotyping them would be illegal. Then They could be the biggest assholes in the world and we couldn't even say so :p

And finally, family tradition? If you don't want a under appreciated job, "low" pay, "long" and "hard" hours at a "dangerous" job, I suggest people break their long standing family tradition...

Look, you obviously have a different opinion from me on this issue, that's fine. But you wont convince me anymore than I might convince you. No offense here either. Just how I feel

"11.6 officers per 100,000 die on the job annually compared with 4.0 per 100,000, which is the national average for all occupations."

Reminds me of when I signed on the line and put on a military uniform. Nobody forced my to do it, I did it of my own free will. I was very aware of the risks involved. And I didn't run around whining for any special status either.

So if you don't like the risks involved, don't be a cop. Quit whining about how dangerous it is. YOU chose the profession, so grow some balls and accept the bad with the good.

BTW, I don't hate most cops. Just the ones that show up with the "I'm the asshole in charge" attitude. So if you want respect from the general population, act in a manner deserving respect.

a majority do not even get overtime and then there is some (a minority) claiming overtime for being on-call (Overtime Fraud, google it). Also, the above you stated are averages between the newbies and the ready to retire chiefs

again, comments in red, and I am not trying to convince everyone. I enjoy this kind of communication. Note that none of us resorted to name calling as some do in the past. Thanks to folks like you I too am able to see both sides of the coin more clearly.
So, I end this with a big Thanks!

just FYI, I am not in the profession.
Since when do Police whine about a "special status"? (IOW enlighten me)

as for you not whining, you are one of the few. read the Stars & Stripes online and read how those folks whine and complain.
but this is another thread I would be more than willing to start.

I was one of the few who joined just to get into the Gulf war when I was legally able to in '91.

Those are "Fringe benifits" and firemen , paramedics , nurses and a few other folks get them to.

I don't know anybody that doesen't speed , I generaly role with traffic and that is generaly above the speed limit. I don't break any more or less laws than the average citizen. Also I don't just whip out my badge as ID when I get pulled over. I have both hands on the steering wheel window down and as soon as the officer allows me to speek I declair my "duty weapon" in its holster fitted to the seat , and thats as far as it goes , if he ask to see my commision and elts me go without a ticket (most of the time) then great if not then so be it I'll get a ticket , and I could go as far as to contact some folks to get strings pulled to get out of it but I feel that its over abusing your "benifits" so I'll pay the fine and be on my way.
i respect your job and what you do, can i ask a question? how come cops don't have to stay in shape? yeah i know they don't all look like the guy with the motorcycle, but a lot (ok, most) of them look like they would be winded after 25yrds, not that they would catch anyone anyway. these are the kind of physical specimens that i am reallying on to protect me and my family? not a very comfortable feeling, i'm sure your in great shape so this isn't toward you... from the one list it looks like cops do ok with their pay, correct me if i'm wrong but would they not also get paid to exercise? does the dept. not have like an hour a day where they could be in the gym and still be on the clock?
thanks, doug

i guess another thing that leaves a bad taste in my mouth is they love to give me a ticket for cruising 15mph over the speed limit on a nice lonely highway but they never seem to be around for the 17 year old who is driving way too fast and weaving in and out of traffic and posing the real threat. cops will sit under overpasses waiting for that last car that is turning and running a yellow light, the poor guy that has just worked 10 hours and just wants to get home to his family and have a nice meal...the there was the sunday morning they were camped out at the bottom of an overpass with their radar guns, the car next to me was going slightly faster but the car was a piece of crap, i was driving a 2002 Nissan Maxima, who do you think got pulled over? guess they figured the other guy might not be able to pay the $175 ticket. :(

While you are at it, why don't you ask folks in the Air force and the Navy the same question. That always perplexed me.

well that's real, real easy, most of the guys/gals in the armed forces ARE in good shape, bad ass mf'rs. and the few that aren't, so what, they SHOOT the bad guy, they don't have to chase down the burglar that is running on foot out of the neighborhood...

darn, you beat me to it;)

I'm in the United States of America, the military that I see(MacDill Air force base) are not fat slobs like most cops, don't know what country you guys are living in??

It will be a cold day in hell before I say anything negative about the men and women that serve in the armed forces of the USA. So don't come on here and show your ass, 'cause I don't want to see it.

Anyone who thinks the criminal justice system in America these days has anything at all to do with justice has been lucky enough to never really have to deal with it, either themselves or through a close friend or family member. As some of you know, I work in that area. Luckily it was just a seat belt ticket. Hope you never get busted with two or three other people, one of whom had stashed a controlled substance in their apartment, car, whatever. (I'm not even talking about AS). One person might be guilty, but all will get arrested and charged. These days you are pretty much guilty until proven innocent.

The problem is the average law-abiding middle classs citizen (which most of us on here are - take away the BS AS laws) has no idea how far we have gone down the road toward being a police state. I'm afraid that by the time peoplle start to wake up, it will be too late.
