Gratitude

Solid post.

I'd like to add that as much as social media can be a useful tool, it can also be tremendously damaging to weak minded people who are constantly comparing themselves to others in a way that's mentally bad for them.

Nothing wrong with striving for perfection and wanting more but, lets not ever forget the things we SHOULD be appreciative for at the same time and know that shit can be WAY WORSE.

Just waking up another day and taking a breath is a blessing in itself. Everyday I strive to do my good deeds and not harp on the negatives cause there is always someone who has it worse. At times when I get a reality check like the OP I just become thankful for the humbling experience and try to leave a mark in this world cause tomorrow is never promised my friends. Kindness and humility goes long way.

I'm a realist, a bit pessimistic. I rarely get surprised by life or caught off gaurd, but it's a struggle to keep a positive outlook. Prepare for the worst, hope for the best. I often forget to appreciate what I have because I'm always striving for better. I'm always wanting more - more career achievement, money, accomplishment, better physique, etc. Always chasing something, never really content. I'm driven but sometimes I realize it's a delusion. You'll never be happy in that mindset.

Buddhist and Christian teachings are that to truly be happy and achieve true contentment and enlightenment, you have to remove petty desire. It makes sense that to be truly content, you have to desire less. Live a simple life. I struggle with all of that as I'm a juiced up, Type A rat on a wheel, perpetually running my rat race.
