Yes it is. Besides the guys that just abused themselves so much and died on these pages (kidneys, high blood pressure etc) I think a large problem is the the basic principle of
Eight hours of every day must be spent recovering, and in episodes of deep REM sleep...for health, relaxation, stress, etc etc...
So you have a large offseason bodybuilder who is huffing and puffing all day long because he has so much body mass.....and then for the 8 hours he is supposed to be giving his heart a break....its getting zero break and its incredibly taxed with a chain of events which isnt much unlike a drowing episode repeatedly.
Evan Centopani figured it out
Sleep Apnea / CPAP and BPAP machines?
I believe alot of these other guys didnt (the ones that didnt abuse themselves to an early death because they thought they were indestructable)
GH makes everything grow including throat tissue. Ive seen more than a few individuals develop sleep apnea after usage of gh.
I draw these conclusions from my experience. Ive come across quite a few educated large bodybuilders who were young and had OSA. I say educated because most people will not grasp that they have sleep apnea and will refuse to do something about it. These young bodybuilders 22, 29 and 32 all had terrible obstructive sleep apnea.
I belong to a group of about 6 very learned bodybuilders forum....all over 40 and all advanced...and 5 of us have sleep apnea. With all the good sides of bodybuilding there is a definite down side. Along with huge delts, chest, arms, back, and legs comes a large neck.
I have sleep apnea. During my testing i had no apneas on my side. But on my back i have terrible sleep apnea. I cannot sleep on my side because it kills my shoulders. So i had to make the choice to get the machine. It sucks....the mask has aged me greatly...the lines it has put on my face....I used to be 37 and people thought i was 26....the mask has definitely erased that...but the alternative of not treaing sleep apnea is very well known. Ive taken my weight way down the past five years and the Matt Duvall thing was it for me. Ive taken it down into the 240's now....the OSA is still there.
I remember that sleep apnea doctor on the Palumbo podcast saying he thought 90% of large bodybuilders have sleep apnea.
So thats my theory. Undiagnosed and untreated sleep apnea has already been said to be rampant in retired and present playing football players. I believe its doing the same for bodybuilders in their 30's on up.
