Okay. Everybody warms up.
Let's make a real life example :
Ronnie Coleman only does 1 working set usually on TBAR Row
His warmup scheme will be something similar to this....
3ppx15
5ppx15
7ppx12
9ppx10
I still consider this 1 working set.
Set 1-3 does jack for muscle his muscle growth.
They're all just warmups so he doesn't wreck himself handling 9plates.
At BEST, we can argue his 3rd set is somewhat moderate in strain, and contributes SOME sort of volume and adds to muscle growth (almost as if it counts as 1/2 a set)
So one could argue that he does 1.5 working sets per muscle group if they really want to. It's still very low volume in the end.
He only does about 3-4 exercises for back. That comes out to either 4 working sets (or 6 to somebody that wants to consider each of those a 1/2 set contributing to volume for muscle growth)
I believe the majority of pros that do low volume train like this. It's not as if there's an option. I'm nowhere near his strength, and even I do this for my working set :
Deadlift double overhand - - Only 1 work set
225x10
335x10
455x12+ reps
If I was at 600 pounds, you could bet I'll probably do 1 more warmup. This is all just my opinion btw, feel free to disagree..
