Gut Health and How to Improve It

Been really interested reading up on gut health which most probably know is on the of the largest factors in overall health, inflammation, muscle/fat ratios, etc.

Been looking at protocols for sort of 'resetting' and optimizing gut health as antibiotics, certain foods, and environmental factors like water chlorination can shift the balance one way or another.

So far one of the protocols I just read may look like -

4 weeks - Oregano oil
4 weeks - S. boulardii yeast (help flush candida, restore glycocalyx layer to microvili, and induce IgA secretion)
4 weeks - prescription strength probiotics and fermented foods

Bacteria known/believed to decrease fat and increase LBM -
Lactobacillus
Bifidobacterium

The other thing I haven't been able to find any conclusive evidence on is whether probiotics induce a permanent change in gut flora after some time or if the benefits are only while you continue therapy.

Wanted to know if anyone else might be knowledgeable on this subject as I feel like the quality of my digestion has decreased in the last year or so.

Just ordered a new rice cooker that doubles as a 4Q incubator so I'll be making some batches in the next week!

Might want to combine that protocol with a detox from refined sugar, and also cut out milk.

And you might want to also add vinegar.

Swim,

Layout a typical day of the foods you eat.

-MT

I'm currently on my last bit of a cut so quantities are low but I'll give a general layout

Meal 1
1 whole omega 3 egg
1c egg whites
2oz ham
1-2c spinach
1/2c oats w/ some cream of rice mixed in

Meal 2
5oz chicken
1-2c green beans or brussel sprouts
1tbsp omega 3 peanut butter

Meal 3
5oz chicken or ground beef
1c jasmine rice or equivilent quinoa/oats/sweet potato

Meal 4 - pre workout shake
20g waxy maize
20g whey

Intraworkout
BCAAs/glutamine/taurine

Meal 5
Same as meal 1 since I love breakfast food or 6oz ground beef with jasmine rice and leafy greens

I also throw in a cup of Greek yogurt frequently as a snack or 2 cups as protein for a meal sometimes

That’s a nice clean diet!

Fermented sour kraut

Have done this before and tried fermenting my own but yogurt is a lot less intensive and all the unpasteurized/organic/refrigerated store bought stuff I've found is usually pretty pricy for the quantities although I do fucking love sour kraut

Metformin is fantastic for optimizing your gut flora.

Interesting. I've got plenty laying around although usually use berberine but I can throw some back in.

@Johnjuabn1 - thanks! Usually do have 1-2 cheats per week at a sushi buffet or something similar just for reference

My - and many's - personal experience led me to the exact opposite conclusion.

OP: as suugested, fasting (water fast only anywhere from 24h to 72h) is by far your best way to launch a series of chemical reactions in your body that will yield to profound detox. Actually doing it once every month or every two months is optimal if you want to experience permanent improvement.

Then, once you're done with your fast, try to incorporate things such as green or white clay (drink it each morning on an empty stomach and wait at least 1h before eating), and all the other stuff you've mentioned.

Chlorella will also greatly help in detoxifying your body, especially from heavy metals but not only. So will activated charcoal.

Too many things to mention in a single thread actually... :)

This is garbage advice IMO

There are supporting herbs to clean up a bit, but its what you do daily that makes the difference.
Raw, femented foods daily, I make my own kombucha and drink daily, eating more raw veggies to increase digestive enzymes. Incorporate some green juices, and probiotics.
If you choose to do a yeast cleanse as you suggested, avoiding sugar and vinegar during that time is important as these feed the yeast.

I have been hearing a lot about the importance of PREbiotics as well. For those who don't know, fermentable fibers that selectively feed the good bacteria in your gut. I have to take it easy with those, otherwise I get the worst freakin gas imaginable. Makes me wonder what I've got going on down there.

Instead of just trashing it, try adding something useful to the conversation.

1) You didnt use a lick of science, data, or empirical evidence
2) You made a statement about 'detoxing'
3) This has been more than debunked by professional nutritionists 10000times
