Hello everybody,

I was curious about what are you all taking for gut health? Cuz if i eat more it becomes more important. Or i will get gassed/more bloated etc…

I’m taking kefir every night 200ml
And thinking about glutamine every morning at 20g with maybe some applecider vinegar 1 spoon. Also going to make some kimchi and take that every day. Maybe some guys have tips? Or add more things?

Grtz

If I'm eating to a point where digestion is a problem I will switch out low calorie dense foods for more calorie dense. Chicken to steak, strawberry to banana, rice cakes to flavored oats. Maybe add walnuts or Natty PB to some meals or a shake. Add honey or orange juice pre workout to get some extra calories that go right down

Yes i will do that 2 thankyou, you not taking pro or prebiotics?
I personally don't, I eat a lot of yogurt and eat foods I digest well. Imo if you need to supplements for digestion you should look at overall diet and food choices. I may digest poor at 5k, but If I were to eat 5k for me I'd be overfeeding, gaining fat, screwing my insulin sensitivity. If I was a mass monster who required extreme calories I'd first try food choices that go down well. Make the pre-work out meal large and easy digestion carbs even liquids, get 1,000 calories pre and even post. Then my other meals more complex carb sources.

As a healthy diet will give a person all the prebiotics they need that is how i tend to go and have for a long time. Keeps my gut feeling better as well as keeps me from getting sick very often. Been ick 2 tines in the last 6 years and bot was from covid but it didn't keep me down much. I do yogurt. But as 1 of the stomachs job is to kill off living things before they can get into the body i always have to wonder how much passes through.

Something has simple as free from Glutamine. One of the benefits is keeping your gut healthy!!! Def a must in anyone’ cabinet/ closet In this game ..

Find out which foods give you problems and eliminate those, then find the foods you can digest well and don't get issues. I like to eat fermented stuff to aid my gut bacteria, classical white or red sauerkraut, since I'm a German 😉. I make my own, very cheap. I also make my own water kefir and drink a glas every day.

Personally I found that the vertical diet works really well for me. I can eat up to 6k kcals and not have digestive issues. I stay on that style of diet (basically a modified low fodmap diet) year round, with a few exceptions, e.g. eating only potatoes instead of rice on a cut (for satiety), and also eating Turkey instead of just the expensive red meat (mostly beef, sometimes venison if there is a deal in the grocery store).

An ounce of prevention is really worth a tonne of cure when it comes to gut health and the immune system. Do not just throw some supplements on top of a shitty diet and think it will get better.

@Muay Thai has some good posts on gut health.

please post recipes on the kraut and water kefir! I have been all over Germany, my kookoo clock from the black forest just fell off the wall last year and broke. Very sad. I always said I wanted to propose to my future fiance overlooking Heidelberg castle on philosophers way. Too many brilliant minds come from Germany to mention in regard to philosophy, masonry, etc.

Saccharomyces boulardii
l-reuteri (which is present in many kefir products) bacteria strains I have found the most research for on gut health for severe conditions

DGL, NEEM OIL, wormwood, slippery elm, betaine-HCl + pepsin, digestive enzymes (find out which you are lacking, for many western Europeans it is protease enzyme) dig into your blood type and eat towards it. 2 tbsp raw apple cider vinegar (acetic acid is what we are after) upon waking diluted in 6 to 8oz water. if you overproduce acid which is rare, drink a lot of alkaline water.

add balsamic vinegar to your greens /.olives-olive oil and other anti-inflammatory foods

INTERMITTENT FAST a few days per week. YOGA surprisingly helps a lot also. it's also one of the few things that drain your lymphatic system fluids. Drink RAW MILK (not pasteurized) . i cant do kimchi its too spicy, kraut is in my blood I opt for that.

thank you for the shout, I usually bounce my ideas off @heavyhitter he is the other bright mind regarding the digestive system on here, he normally adds a few things I sometimes forget to the aforementioned protocols.

also, you should do a food allergy test and a digestive enzyme test

start including papaya (strongest digestive enzyme in nature papain), pineapple (bromelain is second, so strong they use it as a meat tenderizer in restaurant industry, and apples (pectin is third strongest)

and of course fodmap diet is smart.

if youre taking PPIs (prilosec, pantaprazole etc) try to get off them and replace them with beatine hcl+pepsin, if the capsule gives you ACID reflux then youll know that you produce to much, but this is not often the case, usually we are lacking, and food begins to ferment like prison pruno (rotting fruit booze) the mexicans add tomatoes and make their michelada prison brew lol., true story

I read this on NAC for stomach issues -

It's incredible to hear nearly every sibo patient is on "NAC". NAC promotes hydrogen sulfide in the intestines causing inflammatory bacterial environments. NAC is a Mucolytic agent which promotes bacterial proliferation in intestinal epithelial tissue. NAC is a biofilm disrupter that targets healthy microbes. I have not seen one study showing the efficacy of NAC. Only naturopaths give anecdotals. It is honestly laughable and I feel sorry for people buying into this.

FYI: methane archaea biofilm layer is made of cholesterol. Any "biofilm disrupter" will have no effect other than lovastatin.

So your saying drop NAC?

Making Water Kefir is pretty easy, you just need some crystals, dried fruit, sugar and a glass bottle. You can keep reusing the crystals. E.g. those here will do the job just fine https://www.happyherbalist.com/japanese-water-crystals/ - I have problems with Lactose, I tried all kinds of Milk (Cow, Goat, fresh, not pasteurized etc), still can't have it. So I stumbled upon Water Kefir. I don't ferment it longer than two days max though, don't want to have too much alcohol in it. Usually I go for 36 hours.

As for making your own sauerkraut, this recipe here is great: https://www.thespruceeats.com/fermenting-red-cabbage-sauerkraut-1327622 I like to add some vinegar once it is done to make the kraut more tender, a few ounces of apple cider is great, and a few pickles.

Not sure where you’re from but for me cold, not middle aisle of grocery store, Sauerkraut, Kimchi, Fermented anything. Unsweetened Kefir or preferably if you know a local, raw Goats Milk or Kefir. Supplements Jarrow Saccharomyces Boulardii and a refrigerated probiotic.

Forgot to add, fermented beets are an incredible add to a chicken salad or wrap. Helped digestion and taste amazing IMO. If not available from store look up ways to make fermented foods on YouTube.

Saccharomyces Boullardi (Jarrow)
Zinc-L-Carnosine (as) Gastro Ease (Life Extension)

I am probably going to get some Visbiome sachets that Dr Rhonda Patrick likes and incorporate Kefir in my daily diet soon. Perhaps sauerkraut or kimchi but anytime I try to commit to them, I am not a fan.

Interesting what Muay posted on NAC. I have taken NAC for YEARS @ 1200-1800/d and did not know this alleged 'fact'.

So is everyone in favor of NAC? I’m currently on it .. maybe 600-1200mg daily

NAC also breaks down mucus... which our stomachs are lined with. I have to be careful with NAC as it definitely does so with mean and makes my stomach ulcers flare up.

I wouldn't take kefir at night after a long day of eating if you're looking for the probiotic benefits. Would be best to take first thing in the morning on an empty stomach. Same goes with all probiotics. The stomach will kill off the vast majority of them if they sit in stomach acid too long.

Like @Knight9 said Visibiome is what Dr Rhonda Patrick recommends.

Her and Tim Feriss go into some detail but they also mention that the probiotics you take won't have a chance to colonize in the gut if it's already filled with other or bad bacteria.

So you have to kill off the bad, then repopulate with the good.

Regarding prebiotics, they feed good and bad bacteria so I guess it depends on your personal gut biome whether they would be good or not.

For glutamine I would opt for 10g 2x a day instead of 20g all at one. It definitely helps protect my ulcers when they start to flare.

What's the Aloe Vera for? Did a quick search but only saw people with bladder issues using the stuff.
