Gym “Uniforms”

How do you you guys know if its the real deal, regardless of brand?
Where's the best place to purchase knowing I'm purchasing the authentic watch, not some knockoff?
Also for watch people, what is the most coveted watch to try get, I guess the holy grail of watches?

MS
I trust Jomashop. They are honest and prices about as good as it can get. I had them service a Hamilton that had problems during the warranty period. They fixed it FOC. It took about 5 weeks or so because they have to test it by running it for a period of time.

All I had to pay was shipping to them in NY.

I’m a fan of short, shorts and yoga pants, boosts my testosterone when I’m working out. Just gotta make sure I don’t take cialis pwo.

The expression goes, "buy the source, not the watch".
You have to know the dealer history and rep, or trust the person and have a record to back them up.

There a a lot of terrible fakes, and some very good replicas. I honestly got started in higher end watches after collecting replicas. Some are scary close...

At the moment my Grail would be the Lange 1 Torubillon Perpetual

I find Lange craftmanship breathtaking.

Most of the Japanese women I see can't wear either because their butts are too flat :p
They are getting better though.

My wife is a rare genetic exception, hence my wife ;)

Ok watch aficionados. My dad was a business man and just like some of you watches, glasses (Serengeti) etc. was his thing. He died by his own hand in 07’ and we hadn’t spoken for two years prior but the last time he spoke he gave me these two watches. The gold one was his prized possession he wore it at all times. I tried to pawn it as a kid and they wouldn’t touch it cause it was “to hot”.
He was drunk when he gave them to me and said they “had the guts of a timex” so I assume them to be fakes or replicas. I always figured I would try to fix the clasps and return them to him but anyway.
I have 2 older brothers and when our dad passed they scoured every inch of his place for these watches and to this day I’ve never told them I have them.
So, what kind of watch person would help me get the clasps back in order and what would it cost? If they used real parts I assume it could be pricey. The blue one is missing the crown on the band and the gold one needs a little more love. I’ve never told this story until now but you guys know your watches.

Very hard to tell from just these pictures of two tired Day-dates.

Weight will tell you right away as a 36mm DD should weigh about 175g.
The dials look OK, and the font on that date disk looks not bad, but I'm no DD expert I'd have to see the movements..
The both seem to have a lot of wear, but in these pictures I see no underlying stainless steel showing through.
The crystals look good, which considering the overall condition implies sapphire, which is a good sign.
The center link on the band looks odd on the left one to me, but again I'm no expert.

I'd take them to a good dealer to have a look over if the weight checks out. No one would both making a rep in real gold, the best they do is wrap, which is better than plating, but still wear off the edges over time.
If they turn out to be real, they are worth some good money and would be worth it to restore, though the missing gold parts and the price of service won't be cheap. I'd estimate $700 each for a service, without significant damage inside.

Thanks hawk!
When he gave them to me he taught me how to tell a real from a fake by the movements. I don’t believe they are real. They are probably good copies at best but sentimentally.. they are priceless.

The watches I will keep forever have value that cannot be expressed in dollars. Cheers.

I bet a good watch/ clock store could fix them up for a fair price. Do they run now if you wind them? They are hard to find, but some cities have a small family owned shop that does that sort of work affordably. We have a shop about an hour from our house and I found a guy that works from his home just 30 minutes away.

Hawk/Maldorf, would you guys be against buying a watch from Amazon?

Hawk, you and USMuscle have sold me on that Kamasu, and I've been looking around online for the best place to buy it.

I buy almost all my Japanese watches (not Grand Seiko) on Amazon Japan.
Nice to have in hand in a day or so - bad for impulse buying though ;)

If you want to consider the vendor, I would check to see how they will service the watch if it has problems during the warranty. I like Jomashop because the prices are great and they have their own in house service department.

I'd just buy it straight from Orient, their service is top notch and they always have deals going on. Hell, they gave me a free women's watch last time when I bought a lowly Mako 2, which my ex still wears. The bitch

Those Orient watches are an amazing low price for an autiomatic. Jomashop is offering new ones starting at just $75.

Truly. Couldn't believe how affordable they are.
Cant imagine how they produce them so inexpensive and still make a profit. The one for $75 has a 1 year warranty too. Not sure if some of the others have a longer one.

Orient is fully vertically integrated and very efficient.

Now as part of the Seiko Epson group everything is inhouse and the amount of watches they can produce together is staggering.

Seiko makes more of it's own components than any watch company in the world.

Seiko is very affordable now too. Same pricing it looks like.

For some reason it seems Jomas is missing a lot of the popular models and seemingly no Prospex...don’t know why.

If you go Seiko I’d strongly recommend the Seiko Turtle. it’s a great piece that’s true to Seiko DNA.

It’s ancestor, the 6105, was very popular with servicemen in the military during Vietnam. They would buy them with their own money as the issued watches broke down often.

The 6105 was made famous as it was worn by Martin Sheen in Apocalypse Now by his character Captain Willard. The newest issued homage (3x the price of a turtle) is nicknamed “the Willard”.

Damnit, Hawk, I was all ready to get the Kamasu and now you have me looking at these Turtles!

I really love the Kamasu and am thinking that's the direction I'm going to go as an everyday watch, but you're not kidding, those Turtles are awesome!
