Gym clothes smell like wet dog

Try higher quality detergent. Adding something antibacterial should help too. Use fabric softner. In wash or dryer or both. Don't blast on high heat in dryer. Use med heat. Those are my ideas.

Yea it sounds like you have some bacteria build up in the fabric itself. Once wet and warm, the odor comes back. Regular detergent on cold wash may not be enough. Try color safe bleach if colored or regular bleach if white. Hot water. Hot dry. Other than that, if it's still an issue you may have to let that bad boy gym shirt go. I had an ancient Nuns with Guns Rage Against The Machine one that got a bit ripe. Had to let it go, burial at sea. She will be missed!

I have the same problem too. Soaked my shirts in white vinegar for 24 hours like Adjos said. Worked like a charm! 2 parts vinegar and 1 part water. My clothes don't smell like anything but the detergent, even after my workout. Good as new!!!

Thought it was just me that had this problem. I wash my clothes regularly and shower before the gym just to reek something nasty the second I begin to break sweat. Its fruatrating and embarassing. Thanks everyone for posting.

Old house

I have a very old house. In the spring and summer months it sweats and swells leaving a odor in my clothes and body. I have to shower everyday or face retribution from my co-workers as:"Damn man, you stink like shit", or ""Did you sleep with a dead dog?" I'll ask my PCP for more Info on this one.

It seems if soft water doesn't rinse clothes very well.

Try a new detergent. Are you sure you washer is rinsing your clothes out?? Ive had clothes many years that have no smell.
