Had anyone fixed knock knees?

Just wondering if anyone has had this issue? How did you successfully correct it if so?

Thanks!

I had bowed legs and had high tibial osteotomy in my late teens, now early forties. Instead of slightly over correcting, they went way past so now I have knock knees. I can't even squat a broom stick, my knees joints are so bad. I will be getting alignment fixed, as part of knee replacements. The osteotomy is the main stand alone way the correct it. How old are you? And do you feel it is affecting your knees, hips, spine or just the cosmetic look that concerns you?

I'm early 30s now myself. It effects me in certain ways ie. I sure as hell dont squat as I'll be limping for days, same with leg press and some movements such as that.

I've seen pics online and mine isn't a major case but its enough for me to be self conscious of it at times.

Is surgery the only way for everyone though? or is that just your case? (As yours was caused by surgery)

I ask as I keep coming across youtube videos that say it can be fixed if you stretch this and strengthen that and so forth.

Have a PT look at your movement patterns before you consider any surgery. I have seen many times that things such as poor glute activation and abnormal pelvic tilt can magnify the appearance of knock knees.

Unfortunately surgery is likely the only fix. They will use pins and force straightening on younger patients, still in bone growth phase.

Definitely follow above advice and see a PT, work with them for a while. Get scans done on knee joints and also standing full length of legs. Get them looked at by a specialist.

I wouldn't rush surgery, but at the same time quality of life will dictate that. Most surgeons will want the metal plates and screws taken out from osteotomy before future total knee replacements and TKR are known to last shorter times in patients that have previous osteotomy or TKR. So protection, while maintaining movement and range of motion is key.
