I seen a Dr.Phil show tonight an it was talking about a virus that spreads by touching skin an it travels in your body like cancer an its immune to antibiotics. The reason am starting this thread is too get the info out there I guess it kills more then AIDS. Any info on it post here so it can be known how to avoid it. They say the best way is to always wash your hands an try to keep yourself in a clean healthy environment.

Methecillin Resistant Staph Aureus, it's not immune to all antibiotics. just a little harder to kill. it mutated or evolved. This is due to people not finishing their antibiotic prescriptions. They quit when they feel better and the bug isn't completely dead. If your antibiotics are ordered for 10 days, you should always take them for 10 days. it adapts to the antibiotic. It is also from over prescribing of antibiotic. Over exposure to an antibiotic, the bug will change to survive, thats nature.

yes we have a very dear and well respected member of this board suffering with it right now

Yes. It's one of many antibiotic-resistant strains. MRSA is the specific Methicillin Resistant Staphylococcus aureus

Our last featured member, one of the best members we've ever had here nearly died from it. He's alive thank God. Way to go Iabadman!

Doctors need to STOP prescribing last line of defense antibiotics and stick with penicillin and amoxicillin for all but the most dangerous infections. The rest of the strains people need to tune up their immune systems to fight off these bugs naturally. It's the only way. Doctors are prescribing Keflex and Z-paks for common colds. That's not good medicine.

OUCH, I must agree with your closing statement. I feel the days of "GOOD MEDICINE" are all but over for us. Doctors have become nothing more than pharmacy reps for the drug companies. They are not terribly interested in finding the cause or treating the problem. They would rather throw script after script at whatever is bothering us and hope that one of the miriad of drugs they do prescribe works!! I know not all Doctors are like this but the majority are heading down this drug path.

i text him every week so make sure hes ok... .gonna text him tonight.....

Can you tell him Jon said hello? For me. I haven't had a chance to get in touch with him or the fam.

just got a text from him said "not gr8 but hanging in there"

our head guy just did some reading and stuff on it and now has all of us keeping the place spotless. kinda scary stuff in my opinion

Yea u have to catch this stuff early or your in pretty deep. Even if u catch it quick it is still really hard to get rid of. Mine came back multiple times. One of the reasons I decided to quit fighting and go back to bodybuilding.

Its a big thing over here in the UK in hospitals. People get admitted with one thing and then catch this awful disease while theyre an inpatient. Its shocking. Cleanliness seems to be one of the preventative measures that we get told and also not visiting a relative in hospital if your on antibiotics yourself. Thats kinda hard to police though.

I read all the stuff on iabadman and that man is a legend in my eyes.

I read an article about MRSA aboug 4 months ago and it was saying how this will be the disease that will kill most of the gay men on the west coast since they've developed the perfect drug cocktail to fight AIDS, they arent as scared of catching AIDS anymore, so they're not using protection as much anymore and now MRSA is spreading like wildfire through that population and it's killing alot of them. Tsk tsk tsk on them i guess, but nasty stuff for all of us.

My God I wounder if that's what I had a few weeks ago that put me
in the ER. Never in my life felt Stomach pain like that to the point of
passing out. They said it was a posible virus.

YOU WOULD NOT BELIEVE how common MRSA is.

Hospitals are rampant with it.

The only real line of defence is cleanliness. It spreads so easily primarily because of bad hygiene procedures within hospital wards ( eg. not washing hands or changing gloves when moving from one room to another or not washing with anti-septic alcohol when moving from examining one patient to another).

Doctors and nurses bear a lot of reponsibility for how spreads, due to their often lax approach to hygiene in the hospital. You would not BELIEVE some of the stuff I have heard doctors say/do and their unwillingness to adhere to the proper hygiene prototcols. I've talked to one friend (a nurse), who works with a doctor who refuses to believe that MRSA can be spread by not washing hands!! Some people really are not suitable to be doctors.

I've been in the medical field for over 15 years. I work with Respirator patients mostly. No need to fear. It can be treated.

I work in a hospital also and see many patients with MRSA,it all depends where they have it(blood,sputum,wound,anywhere..),i do Echocardiograms so i cover myself with a gown, gloves and sometimes mask when i see that green sticker on that patients door.

Yeah I worked in a hospital, on a med/surge floor. Seems like we always have two or three patients with MRSA. Gowning up to go in and out of those rooms was a PAIN!
