What's up fellas, I'm 27 years old and my doc thinks I may have AC Joint arthritis. He's doing an exploaratory surgery on me Monday May 07, 2007. He said if I do have it he will perform an AC Joint Excission where cuts off part of the AC Joint that has arthritis and is causing my inflammation.

Has anyone ever had AC Joint arthritis? Have any of you who had it gotten the AC Joint excission? What were the results? What was the recovery and rehab like?

I first got ac joint arthritis about 4 years ago and I was given the option of surgery but my doc recommended trying cortizone shots first. I got one and it helped for about 6 months. I got second and it also helped for about 6 months. I got a third and it felt great for about 2 years, and I got my fourth about a year ago and it still feels great now. The doc said that if I got the surgery I might not fully recover my strength, but I'm stronger than ever right now and I'm off cycle so I would definitely say I'm happy I got the shots instead.

I seperated my left ac joint in a car accident about 18 years ago and it still hurts every now and then when I go heavy. I wouldnt doubt if I have arthritis now in that joint becuase of the injury. If I were you, I would do like the poster above and try the cortisone. Leave surgery as a last resort. Some people I know that have had shoulder surgery end up weaker than ever, and the pain can actually get worse.

I was diagnosed with AC joint arthritis in 2003. I opted not to have surgery, where they shave the bone down. Now it pretty much gets imflammed after and during every upper body training session, and some exercises I can't do at all without minor pain. It is just something I have learned to tolerate. I don't like the idea of surgery unless it is absolutely necessary.
