Headache from lifting?

Right after I did squats last week, I got a horrible pounding headache in the back of my skull. I passed it off as bad breathing when it went away after fifteen minutes or so. Then, I did upper body two days later, and I got the same headache during incline press, but it also went away pretty quickly. Today, I did legs again, did my warmups, and started on my work set for squats. Around my fourth rep, the headache came back, same spot in the back of my skull, but worse than before. So bad that I ended up dropping the bar onto the rack and falling over. Couldn't move for about a minute, then got up and went to the health center. It was so bad that even jarring my head from walking hurt like a bitch. Now, an hour later, the headache isn't fully going away, and walking around, up/down stairs, etc. hurts. Nurse also says I have an irregular heartbeat...apparently it's not constantly steady, and slows down drastically when I exhale. Wants me to go back tomorrow and see the doc for an EKG and blood work. Anyone else have problems like this before?

By the way, I currently take 200 mg of caffeine about 45 mins to an hour before my workout...dropped the ephedrine a week or so ago, cause it wasn't really doing anything for me. Any feedback would help. Thanks.

Definately get checked out. My younger brother got a stroke (mild one) from lifting heavy - didn't do any damage. He experienced the painful headaches from this.

i had that happen to me. I was doing a drop sets on squats and pushing really hard. this was a few years ago.

Not really a head ache. It felt like i got stabbed in the head with a knife. I went and laid on a weight bench for probably 40 minutes......then went home and didn't even eat just fell asleep on the couch.

For a while there i couldn't exert any effort without the pressure piercing the same spot in my head. every time i beared down it hurt big time. eventually passed.

Not sure what it was. but i'm sure its not something good.

Just another example of pushing yourself too hard is not good for the body.

I used to occasionally get them real bad, at one stage they thought it was a stoke and had all the joy of scans and a lumber puncture.
Best to be safe and get checked out, remeber the stress we put on ourselves everyday in the gym, can be more than most people experiance in their whole lives.

A good read on the diff types of exercise induced headaches:

That is -exactly- how I felt...and how I reacted. How long did it last for you before it went away?
