Heart Rate Training

What is eveyrones opinion on your heart rate while training ? Does it shoot up or stay relatively "normal". I was watching Shark Tank and there was a cowboy pitching his new fitness system fad where he teaches people to use the best heart rate to get maximal results. My belief with all those systems is it's just a new way to get sedentary people to exercise so it has no magic or ground breaking knowledge.

I examined my own training and my heart rate is always high. Resting is right around 80 and cardio usually hits 160 on the precor machine. I have been higher and that scares me. My BP is usually in the good range at 125-130/75-80. I am going to give platelets soon just to get my blood tests back and check my hemocrit after reading about it in other threads.

Does anyone else monitor there heart rate while training ? I did a search but could not come up with anything specific to this. Lots of great heart information. More and more I think about it now days I look more into the health aspect of this as opposed to cosmetic/strength.

It's my understanding that working within your target heart range allows for progress without over-training your heart. I noticed a difference when I work in my range 150-160 for as long as i want, from having been working in 180 bpm where after a half hour of that I feel like I have the flu. I don't have any references for this other than my experience.

160 scares you? Mine probably reaches 200 after a grueling set of heavy squats. I know when I sprint as fast as possible for as long as possible I'm in the 190 plus range. Thats what happens when you push yourself.

Pre-workouts will make your HR skyrocket too

Not sure what the rest of you think a good HR for Cardio is, but I find keeping a HR of 160-180 bpm while on the Precor for me is normal. Although when I used to run It would always be 160 or below.

I have twice torn my Achilles tendon and since then I don't run, I only use the precor machine for Cardio.

While I train It jumps all over the place, right after a set It's up around 160 or sometime higher, but 30 seconds later while I'm in between sets it could be around 100. I do try not to let it get lower then 100 while weight training because for me that usually indicates that i'm being lazy and waiting to long between sets.

I have to agree with JonStrongbach when I'm over 180bpm for a half hour or so, i start feeling like shit. I also notice I don't wanna take my after workout shake for at least 20 minutes because I wanna puke if I do.

Sorry for the essay!

I always thought anything over 160 was bad. I have been in the 175-185 range before thinking I had to much caffeine and ephedrine. I don't train heart rate for the maximal zone that your supposed to be in. I do it for heart health. Thats why my resting is fine for an adult I thought it was bad to go above that 160 point. Reading these posts now make me feel a bit better. I subscribe to the theory of hard work and total calories burned as opposed to the perfect zone for fat. Again though I am not doing comps.

It's fun to train in the high range of heart rates I agree. When it comes to lifting yeah I don't consider my heart rate, I only take that into consideration why doing cardio. I simply cannot recover day to day if I push my heart too much for an extended period of time.
