I've been on the board for some time but I mod the counselling forum so you guys (and/or gals) may not know me. I just wanted to introduce myself since I may not have reached you folks. I've been lifting since JV football and on and off through many injuries. I rock climb with some mountaineering. I read a post I think by big_byrd (sp?) and saw his photo he posted in a mag. At 198 lbs! What amazing stats! Just amazing. I'm sure some of you others have some impressive numbers as well. I don't compete but would like to think that someday I might be able to. Just for the experience. Although I AM 34 so no spring chicken. I'm currently 215 at 5'9. I have numbers nowhere NEAR you guys. I flatbenched 415, but my partner spotting me accidently touched the bar. I can squat a perfect 545 in the bucket and deadlift 585.

big_byrd? 900+ squat??? I'm speechless. How the hell did you get there?

Am I too tall? What are some of you guys' hgt's, weight's, etc?

I know I'm throwing a lot in here but I've been waiting for the right people to ask for a long time now. My biggest problem with deads is getting the weight off the floor... after 6 inches, I'm good. I could prob DL 100 lbs more if I could get it off the ground... maybe more. My squat is weak too.

I'll keep reading the threads but if you can, take sec and throw some info my way.

i would imagine heavy stiff leg deads would be best for your deadlift. if you can stand on something raised about 6'' off the ground so you can go DEEP that would be even better. nice lifts
 
I think 6 inches is gonna be too high. ur back will begin to round too much, but yes pulling or doing SLDLs off a platform 3-4 inches high will really help. Do u pull conventional or Sumo?

ur squats will go up if u can widen ur stance probably. without briefs to support hips, ur stance should be about shoulder width, with toes pointed out slighty.

a routine directed at peaking ur strength will make a difference rather than following a BB style routine also. u have to be comfortable and confident with heavy weight.
