Help with shopping for Grits

Glad to hear you like them. I love them as oats just give me to many digestive issues. Its not fiber related either as I track that and get 30+ grams a day in. But I eat some oats, and I don't feel like eating for hours.

With grits, I can eat them and go straight to the gym as it doesn't feel like it's just sitting on my stomach.

Actually no. I have just been buying oat powder and dumping it into my shakes as it mixed really well and I could drink it in one go.

I will look to see if I can find some GF oat powder.....or if not I could grind it up myself.

Never thought about that angle as I can usually eat anything with no issues. But definitely worth a shot.

I was actually looking over sweet potato powders last night seeing if it could be a viable alternative for my shakes as I usually try to keep one or two shakes handy at work with protein and carbs as a lot of days I can't sit down long enough for a solid meal until I get home.

But I wanted something slow releasing and lower GI content.

Hahahah "no true southerner uses instant grits!!"

It boggles my mind there are places in the world that don't have grits. I'm the south it's a staple. We always ate it with eggs and country ham.

Butter and salt! If you get into Alabama/Florida/Louisiana that's where shrimp n grits really get popular.

I'm with ya bro. I'm from Louisiana, born and raised on grits. I guess when you grow up doing something it seems weird to imagine not having it.

If you want grits the right way. Get some stone ground ones not no instant crap.
2 cups water
2 cups milk
Bring to simmer " While that is going on put a cup in bowl cover with water cold"
when the water is getting hot skim off the chafe of the top the water with spoon. The drain the grits.
Put in the pot lit simmer 1 hour of so until consistency of creamy oatmeal
You might have to add more water and milk dont let them dry out.
season and add 1/4 cup of heavy cream.
You can also add ghee or butter to your liking.

so wasn't that the inner part of the corn on cob grinded into flour? with no nutritional value whatsoever apart from starch and being easily digestible? oat flour works awesome pre wo
