I WAS DOING SOME STIFF LEGGED DEADS WITH ...AND GET THIS....THE OLYMPIC BAR AND A 25LB PLATE ON EACH SIDE OF THE BAR. I DO THEM SLOW..BACK ARCHED..I DON'T WANT TO GET HURT ANYMORE.

SO....THE GUY [WHO I HAVE NEVER SPOKEN TO] MAKES THIS COMMENT ...

"WOW, THAT'S THE FIRST TIME I HAVE EVER SEEN YOU DO SUCH A DANGEROUS EXERCISE IN THE GYM BEFORE.....I ALWAYS THOUGHT YOU KNEW WHAT YOU WERE DOING.'

I WAS SPEECHLESS.....I JUST LOOKED AT HIM FOR A LONG TIME. I FINALLY JUST SAID...."WELL, MY SHOES WEIGH MORE THAN THIS DOES....BUT, I AM SORRY I DISAPOINTED YOU, SIR"....

HE WAS AN OLDER GUY WHO HAD SOME MUSCLE, GREY HAIR, AND MIGHT HAVE VIEWED HIMSELF AS AN EXPERT IN THE REALM OF TRAINING AT ONE POINT IN HIS LIFE. I MUST HAVE BEEN IRRITATING HIM FOR SOME TIME NOW...THAT'S ALL I CAN FIGURE OUT.:confused:
 
lol. Apparently the guy is only one step beyond those who think doing any form of weightlifting is bad for you.

He probably hurt himself doing stiff legged deads at one point in his life and cant get over it.

You know.... i always thought these geezers offerin advice and lookin like shit were jokes..... then i hurt my pec 2 weeks ago as you all know. Well some dude who wears a bicycle racing uniform to the gym every day offered me advice,i was in a good mood so i listened. THEN he suprised the shit outta me. Turns out he had an extensive background in muscle, lig, tendon mechanics... that type of thing i dont really remember wtf his degrees were, point is... he knew his shit and gave me alot of great advice.

Now i know Jethro u aint gettin hurt w that shyt lol... just my point is theyr not ALWAYS quacks

I applaud you for your patience and tolerance of stupidity. I'm just curious, how much younger are you then this guy who came up to you? And how do you look in comparison?

It's interesting, because lately I've been getting idiotic comments on my WARMUP sets for pulldowns. I warmup with 200, then 250 and do them REALLY SLOW and REALLY CONTROLLED to the point of shaking. Again, only warming up.

This one knuckle head, CONSTANTLY is telling me that I'm doing them TOO SLOW.

When I get into my work set and pump out the reps just a bit faster and a little less on the form, he says, "You're going to heavy".

My response after a few times of hearing this on back day was, "Seriously, bro, if I'm doing them so wrong, WHY THE FUCK DO YOU KEEP WATCHING ME!!!???"

PICTURE A GUY WHO HAS SOME OKAY ARMS COVERED BY A GOOD LAYER OF FAT...SKINNY LEGS AND A GOOD LAYER OF FAT ON EVERYTHING. STILL AN OKAY LOOKING GUY FOR HIS AGE....PROBABLY 190LBS...SORTA BROAD SHOULDERS...STILL HAS HIS HAIR. LOOKS LIKE MAYBE HE WAS AN ATHLETE ....PROBABLY MISSES THOSE DAYS. HAS LET HIMSELF GET SLOPPY AND SEEMS PISSED OFF AT ME. LOL.... I OUT WEIGH HIM BY ABOUT 60LBS.

I AM NOTHING SPECIAL PHYSICALLY BUT, THIS FELLA WITH ALL THE ADVICE...I AM MORE DEVELOPED THAN HE IS RIGHT NOW...THAT MUCH IS CERTAIN EVEN TO ME.

I HAVE TO AGREE WITH YOU THOUGH....NO MATTER WHAT YOU DO IN THE GYM OR HOW PICTURE PERFECT YOU DO IT....THERE IS NO PLEASING SOME PEOPLE.:(

unless you were severely rounding your lower back i have no idea why he would say something to you. even then the weight was so light it wouldn't have hurt you anyways.

if i see someone that is obviously new to the gym that is doing sl deads with their lower back rounded i usually do mention its not a very good idea because back injuries suck and we were all newbies once, but you are obviously no newbie

Dont feel bad Jethro, I think every gym has some of these. Like me for instance, everytime Im in the gym now its like "Hey! Youre lookin good, you must be getting ready to do a show, this is what you might want to do these worked good for me......................" All this free advice from people who have never competed before, and honestly my dad looks better,and hes never set foot in a gym. I just usually brush it off, low carb days its annoying and sometimes I cant bite my tongue.:mad:

SO I FEEL LIKE I'VE GOT IT DOWN! LOL....IT JUST FELT LIKE HE WANTED TO SLAP ME DOWN OR PUT ME IN MY PLACE IN SOME WAY. I JUST HAVE NO IDEA WHAT I MIGHT HAVE DONE TOCAUSE HIM TO FEEL LIKE THAT. I AM GOING TO HAVE THE OWNER [WHO IS A FRIEND OF MINE] PULL UP A PIC AND INFO AND DO A LITTLE INVESTIGATING ON THIS GENT JUST TO SEE WHAT HIS STORY IS.....I AM ACTUALLY A LITTLE CURIOUS. HE DRESSES WELL AND MAYBE HE HAS MONEY OR SOMETHING....HELL, I DON'T KNOW.
 
Oh Come on. I swing by your gym and offer advice and you post it on the net. Seriously though, too bad you didn't say you had gas and thats what works best for squeezing it out. Then look him seriously in the face, smile, and say wait for it.(my wife just called me an ass for posting this-hehe)

"I LOVE IT" Doing comparison shots with the know-it-all.:D That'll shut him up.I did that to a guy in the gym before and now he wont even look me in the eye anymore. I forgot to mention he handed my ass right to me........ha.........ha:D
 
Jethro your lucky... I outweighed this kid by 50-60lbs and he walks up to me... saying I need to train shoulders... As I do behind the neck military press lol... and he was giving me suggestions that I should do cable side lateral raises and some strange junk... kid was probally 150-160lbs at 6'1''... with no shoulders...
 
Am I the only one who people seem to avoid in the gym?

The guy apparently has been watching you work out for some time thats more of a reason for concern than his advice yes?

The best is when people ask you for advice

They don't want the truth won't do it anyway and will wind up listening to a magazine instead so just tell them something crazy
