Perfectly said, just like Den.He did basically, it was a fundamental piece of teaching how to train to the brink. I worked off and on w him for a total of 3 years. To this day, I don’t really count reps on back off sets… just take it to absolute failure (form breakdown). It’s also a form of auto-regulation
Dens broke it down pretty well and basically that’s we he told us circa 2006-2012. I’d have to sift through emails.
I always liked Phil, talked with him a few times on the phone. Rarely about exercise (not why I called) but one of the things he offered that stuck with me is that people want complicated routines, the more complicated the better as of there is some magic in complexity. It’s really quite simple, do not overthink it. I think that is why he charged very little for coaching, there is really not much to it, how could you justify changing a small fortune for something so obvious?
