Hernon Old Training Method Revisited: 2022

He did basically, it was a fundamental piece of teaching how to train to the brink. I worked off and on w him for a total of 3 years. To this day, I don’t really count reps on back off sets… just take it to absolute failure (form breakdown). It’s also a form of auto-regulation

I always liked Phil, talked with him a few times on the phone. Rarely about exercise (not why I called) but one of the things he offered that stuck with me is that people want complicated routines, the more complicated the better as of there is some magic in complexity. It’s really quite simple, do not overthink it. I think that is why he charged very little for coaching, there is really not much to it, how could you justify changing a small fortune for something so obvious?

Some, not all, of his old posts were magic. Ding dong goes the bell if you were paying attention.
 
When I worked with phil he told me to do weight drops to hit 5-7, 8-10, 12-15 reps.

But He didn’t tell me to STAY in those ranges, I think he was just trying to get across about what load drop to do.

It took me about a 15-20% load drop to hit those numbers. A 10% drop would look like 5-7, 6-7, 8-9 reps.

Maybe he tried something a little different with other clients or we worked with him in a different time period? But definitely to failure.

I couldn’t do the set macro meal and just eat when hungry thing though. It gave me power level 9000 anxiety worrying about nutrition

Hey juggy38, were the drops done as 1 big drop set without any rest between the drops, or did Phil recommend a certain rest time between the drops or just go again when you think you are ready? Thanks in advance Bro!!!

He told me to rest until my breathing was back to normal. Longer rests on legs than biceps. LOL
