hiccups

Has anyone one ever had severe hiccups for a 48 hour period? It's really miserable and maddening condition that has never happened to me before. I don't ever get hiccups but I do occasionally get some really bad heartburn.

That is horrible! Try drinking water, upside down, while holding your breath. I swear it works.

5 days!

I've had hiccups for 5 days straight.

I would have shot myself if I went five days. I finally decided to go the doc and he gave me some kind of nausea med along with some valium. The next day it was gone, thank God!

I had the hiccups bad when I was in the hospital. It was due to pain medication that I was given. I think opiates screw up your diaphram and breathing patterns.

Have your hematocrit tested (or hemoglobin), if it is very high, you need to see a doctor and start blood thinners. If you even suspect your hematocrit is high, and you are not on aspirin, start taking a baby aspirin every day immediately.

a shot of pure lemon juice will cure it every time!

once or twice a year i get them for days on end, never more than 5 but 2 is bad enough just due to the soreness and headaches that i get about the end of the first day. i will have to remember the lemon juice. i have had little success curing them in the past however last time i had them my buddy told me to eat lots of peanut butter and although it didnt work every time it did work some and provided me with the most relief to date and i have been getting them like this for 30 plus years. good luck brother!

Don't think I've ever hiccuped more than once at any time, even then it's only a few times a year. There weird, you have no idea when there comming and catch you totaly of gaurd.

Go see a G.I. doc. I did and had an endoscopy done and was prescribed prevacid. It worked wonders,btw I'm off the reflux meds now, I guess my change in diet helped (especially adding more fiber).With all the OTC meds available a lot of people self medicate, IMO the less meds you take the better off you are,only a doc can tell you what you NEED.Feel better bro.

if it persists

If it persists try drinking HOT water by small sips first thing in the morning(or after it comes back).I stress the importance of pure water nothing added.It is just spasm which has to be relaxed by warm drink.
