I got labs back and a few things are off and spiked from my last blood test. Reaching out to see if anyone has guesses what may be going on, everything i look up says liver obviously

Ast 22
Alt 24
Hematocrit 48.7
Iron 53
Ferritin 284

Today
Ast 64
Alt 102
Hematocrit 45.7
Iron 100
Ferretin 601 (high)
Tbc (Iron binding capacity) 223 (moderate low)
Ubc 123
Iron saturation 45

Also of note triglyceride went from 95 to 144, HDL, jumped, and ldl tripled.

I have been doing ta hardcore carnivore diet and essentially started 3 months ago (first bloods). Obviously will be stopping this diet due to ldl concerns. Fat intake has been around 170ed, 1.5-2lbs of beef every day.

Aas change, first bloods was 500mg prop ew. Second 350 prop 210 mast ew. Nothing major there. First bloods was doing alot of calesthenics type training. Second bloods started doing pure strength training (starring strength basically with heavy legs 3x a week) + calesthenics. Only reason I mention training as that could be a variable as it's more intense and added 100lbs to squat which i wasn't doing, strength has shot up and did train hard about 20 hours prior to test.

Any thoughts? All signs point to a liver issue, hoping most of it could be chalked up to an extreme carnivore diet. The ferritin has me worried but Iron did double as well

Also, bilirubin is .3 (in range).

How close did you take bloods around workout?

If you had those numbers pre carnivore diet, and now your liver numbers are 4-5 x times post diet, that's a massive delta in numbers.

I can see how the ferretin numbers make sense (with this diet), but this diet is suppose to reverse (in theory) your liver and lipid profile.

Deload as mentioned and go back in 2-3 weeks to get bloods.

HDL jumping is always positive, but your tri's and ldl is a problem, especially if you been running this diet for 3 months.

I recall jumping on keto, post 3-4 weeks later bloods are always horrid, but 8 weeks post keto, everything aligned the way it should.

Listen, there’s nothing surprising here. You went on an extreme diet that seems healthy — all meat, unprocessed foods, etc. But at the end of the day, it’s still an elimination diet: no fiber, massive intake of heme iron from red meat, lots of protein and saturated fat, no veggies — so no antioxidants, not enough vitamins or minerals.
Your bloodwork is a perfect example of how a healthy person reacts badly to this kind of diet. That’s why I’m totally against these sugar fasts, carnivore diets, and similar things. These are medical diets, made for people with real metabolic issues — not for healthy people. For healthy people, they usually create health problems.
So don’t be surprised that your HDL, LDL, and triglycerides went up. That’s basic — too much fat and energy compared to your activity level. Your liver markers are up too, and ALT is higher than AST which means it’s likely not from training, but a sign of chronic inflammation, likely triggered by the diet. Same with high iron — that also stresses the liver.

My advice: go back to a balanced diet, give your body 3–4 months to stabilize, get your vitamins and minerals in check, and stop with these experiments with everything because you see what the consequences are - nothing good

I had high ferritin for a while. Had to give blood.

Tuesday I did full body bench, weighted chins, squats...3x5 heavy...from 10am till noon. Then 12k steps hiking in evening. Bloods 930 am the next day. So hopefully that causes the spike.

Yeah HDL shot up on carnivore but Triglycerides from 85 to 140s. Ldl over tripled!!! Hopefully that means some inflammation ...contributing to the liver numbers...but ditching the diet for sure

Thank you for the reply brother...I know i have got on your nerves at times...but your post puts me in better spirits. I know i can fix the cholesterol...was just worried the ferritin and ast/alt was a major liver issue...but like you said this all spiked on an extreme diet.

I told myself a while ago that if the bloods say this diet isn't good, then I will be wise and ditch it. And I plan to do that like you advised...back to a balanced diet including fruits, carbs, low saturated fat.

I’d be curious to see your other inflammatory markers with such a high ferritin level. Your TIBC and %saturation are on the low to moderate end and iron is 100 so giving blood may be a temporary fix, but could drop iron status overall. The high ferritin sounds more like inflammation.

I agree with Luki and the above as your drastic diet change likely has not done you any favors here and giving blood would be a short term fix that could create more long term issues. I’d fix your diet, drop inflammation and consider taking IP6 to restore ferritin and iron metabolism. Just my opinion based on the limited amount shared.

Thank you for the reply much appreciated. When you suggest inflammation, do you mean from the extreme diet, hard training session, a combination of both, or potential more serious cause that needs investigation?

Diet has been changed as of 1hr post getting those results. Carnivore felt amazing but obviously is not for me.

I’d have to see CRP and SED rate to fully assess, but if the only major change you have made is your diet then it’s safe to say you should start there.

Training and other factors (being sick, etc) of course can play a role, but if those have been constants in your past it’s likely not the root issue. I’d start with the diet and work backwards from there.

You keep mentioning the immense rise in LDL but have not given a number.

You are not the first one to have these numbers. I see them promoting that Carnivore diet all the time. People are letting their LDLs get alarming high. Meanwhile these so called influences promoting that diet tell them LDL being high doesn't matter. Talk about stupidity, they actually believe that. I always said the same thing, forget these drastic diets, follow a balanced healthy diet over a long period of time.

Yeah, so, about that carnivore diet... LOL. You are not a tiger!

Just an update, I was having pain where my spleen is. They did an ekg, ct scan, bloods. All came back fine, ast and alt were normal. They said very unlikely I had pancreatitis/pancreas cancer, spleen was normal, they said no nafld or liver tumors.

Just some questions because I know people here are very knowledgeable...

1. Can a ct scan definitely rule out liver, pancreas and kidney problems...or major ones?

2. What does the ekg rule out, i assume enlarged heart but not any damage from high cholesterol.

3. Safe to assume since ast and alt are normal, the high ferritin was due to a hard powerlifting session?

Thankful they think it's just an abdominal strain...I was prepared for some bad news. Also Thankful....for this board....life in general. Health scares suck and can definitely fuck with mental health...especially for a nut job like me...lol.

What did your hdl go from; to.

Any AI use with the 500?

4 months carnivore bumped HDL up 34 to 55..but triglyceride from 85 to 144. Jacked up ferritin ast and alt...but yesterday ast and alt were fine...so either they came back down quick on a normal diet...or getting tested further from training made the difference...no way to tell i guess.

The high ast alt labs were 24 hours post training. The normal were 48 hours post training.

I do feel a little better after recent bloods and a ct scan...they said they are pretty confident no nafld or maligncyl in stomach, liver, pancreas, colon, or pancreatic cancer or pancreatitis.

The pain seems to have subsided on its own. They said they didn't suspect a blood clot either. Also did an ekg and as someone who has abused gear, done stupid fad diets, was addicted to nicotine gum and 2 energy drinks a day, I was pleasantly surprised nothing bad came back.

So to summarize pain right where my spleen is for a week, went to er, they think just a muscle strain from powerbuilding and it's feeling better. Also got some reassurance on other concerns as a bonus.

Im thankful and lucky. On a side note im not religious, but before I hit the er I stopped by a church and said a prayer for my family and basically all my sins...and today im pretty much pain free. Crazy..God bless everyone here maybe even if not religious, say a prayer every now and then when facing a scary health situation..can't hurt:)

Sorry forgot to answer your question...usually ill run 400 or 500mg prop. When i wanna tighten up 350 prop and like 200 mast. Never got estrogen tested...Never had gyno or high estrogen symptoms in my life even when I was a fat peemabulker who blasted test.

They did say the ct scan was hard to read because my bf was low and the stuff they injected me with deposits in the fat or something.
