High Hemoglobin With Normal Hematocrit???

Just got my bloodwork back and the labs showed an elevated hemoglobin level (17.1) along with a normal hematocrit level (49.7). My doctor did not seemed concerned about the numbers and just said to continue on with trt dose. Doesn't a high hemoglobin normal go hand in hand with a high hematocrit? What could be causing the high hemoglobin alone?

i think thats fine bro. i thought hemoglobin was 14-18. so ur on the high end and so is ur hematocrit those not as high on the high end.

General there's an equivalent rise in both, hemoglobin and hematocrit. Depending on the assay used to measure hematocrit (there's a few different methodologies ie: microhematocrit centrifugation or calculated indirectly by a 1:3 ratio of hemoglobin to hematocrit)
In some instances there can be a larger volume of circulating iron, therefore a transient rise in hemoglobin.

Personally, I wouldn't worry about it.

Yeah, he didn't seem overly concerned but he does want to retest in a couple of months. I have been googling the numbers and it seems that 13-18 for the Hemoglobin normally falls into the normal range. Wonder why mine is flagged high? Guess I will have to donate blood here soon just to get it down a little. Thanks for the feedback gentlemen.
