I had a friend of the family call me today asking to build him a pistol for the house , he was reciently robbed at gunpoint in his house. He heard noise in the front of the house and decided to go investigate , upon entering the living room he found two young men one with a gun , not having a weapon in his house he was forced to give up all his money and belongings worth any money.
I hooked up with him to discuss what he wanted and go over the whole thing again and basicaly reviewing his mistakes. First off he has a very nice alarm system but it was turned off because he was home , second he was unarmed , third he never called 911 and lastly and the biggest mistake he went to look for the problem.
We got everything worked out ,he is shooting a couple times a week to get profecient with his gun , he keeps his alarm on when he is home and best of all he has decide to adopt one of my dogs as a pet , so now "Spanky" who is a 3yr old Catahoula pitbull mix has gone from living outside ahnd catching wild hogs to earn his keep to living inside protecting the house.

So this got me thinking about what all you guys do for home protection? I know alot of us are pretty big fellas and I know that their are some pro fighters here but neither of those will help you if the intruder is armed. Just figured that I'd pass this story along as to maybe help so of ya'll think about what you can do to protect your family and homes , lets face it folks the world aint getting any better and whith the economy the way it is and the way its heading I doubt it'll get better before it gets worse.

.40 cal sig with crimson trace up stairs and .45 downstairs. It'll take them longer to kick the door in and get to my family than it will for me to grab one. But, I hope and pray that never happens

Glock is the way to go, you never really have to clean it thoroughly, its guaranteed one shot after being submerged, and the one i have (g19 9mm) carries up to 15 rounds

i have 2 springfield xd 9mm one in the living room and one in the kitchen then have a snw 45 acp in the bedroom also have tactical training I am a tactical paramedic/firefighter

I'm a big gun buff. You can't beat a shotgun for home security but for me (I posted this in another thread as well) its a Springfield Armory XD .357sig. I used to like Glock until I shot SA. I just bought their compact 1911 series and its a damn fine weapon. I have the sub compact XD in the .45 and the .357sig. I had a SIG Pro .40 with the changable barrels and thats what got me into the .357sig model. Its a hot round and has great stopping power.

Glock 22 w/ hi capacity mag loaded with Extreme Shock rounds. (just google extreme shock ammo - you will be amazed)
Remington 1300 "SpeedPump" 12ga w/ pistol grip - 1st 4 shells #1 shot, next 2 are #00 buckshot, last 2 are slugs...
I hope it never - ever comes down to me or them. If it was just stuff, I'd let them take it. If my family was home, then it would be an entirely different outcome...

I'm also a firm believer in the shotgun , simply jacking a round in the chamber will get anybodys attention and is a huge motivation to leave.

JOSEYWALES is correct , highpower #6 shot is a far better choice for in building use , the longest shot in your house is likely to be 10 max , the patern from even a strait bore 18" barrel at 30 feet is about the size of a volly ball and it his around 2x harder than a 45 ACP , yet after hitting anything the tiny pellet lose almost all their energy so over penitration is not a concern.
I don't even carry buckshot for my shotgun , either slugs or #6.

Just a thought for you guys with guns , invest in a good weapon mounted light , the light itself is a great weapon blinding the target , nobody wants to fight what that can't see thus lessening the chances for shots fired.

I personaly use a Glock 21 loaded with Cor-Bon 185gr+p rounds and a surefire light mounted to the bottom rail ,the lamp in this light has been replaced with a Cree LED trippling the output , this little light is about 3x brighter than a 5 cell mag light , it'll iluminate a complete basketball court.

Just for those who might be intrested I have a well built Rem 870 that was built for a police officer but he has other things going so I'm stuck with it. It would make a good defense gun but was geared more toward a law enforecment use , if anybody might be intrested PM me.
