First, all I have at home is a rack and 2 sets of dumbbells so I spend a lot of time on bench squat DL and rows.
BUT, to say beginners need to start on these is idolatry plain and simple. You're perpetuating the "tried and true" without critical thinking IMO. Wyck is right, you need to learn to move and squeeze and control FIRST.
How many newbs have you seen doing these compound lifts HORRIBLY? So many people fuck up these lifts early on and wind up weeding themselves out of this game by injury or lack of progress. I agree with @danieltx on this one 100%
