I want to transfer all my VHS tapes on to DVD but the VHS tapes have that stupid anti-pirate thing on there so i can't... How do i get around this and get my 200 tapes on DVD?...It is for personal use not some retail marketing buisness ...

Thanks BBB

If you have a TV-in on your Video Card and a DVD Recorder, can't you record the VHS onto your computer then record onto a DVD?

Put a piece of scotch tape on the top of the vcr tapes where those little holes and staple shape wholes are should work used to do it this way all the time back in the day. MM

I tried the tape thing and that did not work...I have about 200 major titles guys.. i really want to put them onto disc but we need to work on this if you really are serious..lol...

if you record them off your computer will i have to watch them on a computer?

LMK how serious you are guys about doing this.. you can keep the tapes after they are recorded as part of a payment per say....

PM me for serious inquires...

I'd kinda like to know also

If you can get them onto your hard drive, you shouldn't have any problem recording them onto a DVD.

When I put together my last computer I made sure I could get a signal into my video card from a TV (TV-in port). I have a ton of videos that I'd like to convert to DVD also. It would take time to run the VCR to transfer onto hard drive - as long as the video is. I also had visions of once it was on hard drive, I could crop out all the bull shit advertising at the begining of each tape.

If nothing else, if you had a seperate VCR and DVD (player AND recorder), you could pipe in the signal from VCR into DVD recorder as it wouldn't know it wasn't coming from an anttena/cable, couldn't you?

FYI the hole on VHS tapes is to prevent you from erasing it, not making a copy. The copy protection never really worked well, but if you are using one of those DVD recorder with VHS player built-in, they may have it set up so you cannot start the recording. In that case, if you use a separate VHS machine, you can probably get around it.

I'm not sure excel, I have a converter that converts analog video (vhs) into digital video, then I can burn it onto a dvd.
Is this converter just computer software or a whole separate machine?

it's hardware. I have a VCR hooked up to it and my iMac G5 with composite cables from the VCR and a firewire going into my Mac. It converts the video to digital and I capture it into Final Cut HD Pro where I can add special effects, music, cut, etc...bascially I have an editing suite in my office. Video can take up a HUGE amount of your hard drive space.
