How do you deal with sickness during prep?

It happens to everyone, sickness happens and it sucks!

But especially during prep when you are working towards a fixed time line.

How do you guys who have competed deal with sickness during a prep? Especially the later stages.

4 weeks out on Saturday, got a fooking flu/and what feels like a chest infection.

Obviously training and cardio will be out now, as just want to recover from this as soon as possible. Not get worse. Especially cardio causing more cardiac stress/inflamation of the heart.

Do you lower your food to account for the lower activity?

Trying not to lose my mind and catastrophise.

Thank you 💪🏻

I’ll let someone else chime in with more experience

Just hope you feel better soon man.

I’ve seen a lot of people incorporate glutathione in their preps (sick or not) just for the immune system boost and to hopefully avoid a compromised immune system. I know this isn’t helpful to you now, but maybe going forward it could be?

Thank you! I hope so too and I appreciate any advice atall! So thank you. Something I have been wanting to try but struggling to source deffo be implemented in the future.

Preparation isn't my thing, but in everyday life, if I feel like I'm coming down with something, I always do the same thing:

- LOTS of vitamin C, don't skimp on it,
- honey,
- something anti-inflammatory, ibuprofen with paracetamol. If you have a sore throat, you can definitely get some sugar-free lozenges at the pharmacy. It all works for me. Generally, I think a warm drink with honey and vitamin C warms up the body better than swallowing regular pills.

Many people also praise garlic, it can be found in tablets.

Those are the basics; I hope you don't need antibiotics. It's a rough time right now, and a lot of people are sick.

Wishing you good health!

Start on Zinc if you’re not already!!!!! 50-100mg daily. It’ll help knock it out faster!

The whole prep I've been doing a lot of nac, zinc, magnesium, astragalus, vitamin c, vitamin d3 and k2, circumin high doses, selenium and probiotics which I felt was doing a good job but obviously not enough!!! I will increase the doses and try source some glutathione.

Just don't wanna go backwards in progress ffs.

The reality is you have to have a hard pause and try to get it out of your system quick. If that means you skip cardio and training for 2 days, keep them relatiely low days and sleep as much as possible, so be it. The problem is that guys want to keep the progress going so they dont realllly back off which just extends the sickness longer. Training and hard cardio will hit your immune system harder than its already getting hit. Use your diet to somewhat manage eveerything and pull out all the strenuous stuff. Thats whats worked for me.

I actually got walking pneumonia at like 6 weeks out of a show once. I felt like fuckin deathhh. All cardio and lifting felt just soul draining and i had to stop allll hard shit for like 5-7 days to really allow my immune system to get some life. Went to the walk-in clinic for meds.
How did i get it? I took a rip of a bong that was old as shit and inhaled all that gross water hahah

Cheers mate, this response makes me feel better as I've done exactly that! Yesterday was a rest day anyway but still did cardio and posing, and took today as a rest day with no cardio or posing either. Loaded up on even more vitamins etc, and trying to sleep as much as I can and stay relaxed.

Hopefuly be better tomorrow but if not I'll take tomorrow off too, Sunday is another rest day so hopefuly back at it Monday. Last thing I wanna do is like you say, go and train and then extend the sickness when I could have had it done and out the way with a few days full rest.

Dirty ass bong water🤢🤢🤣🤣I am not proud to say it but I've had worse things in and around my mouth 🤣🤣

Vitamin C, Vitamin D3.

Head cold: man up and train through it (lower volume, steps in favour of cardio), eat the same
Body flu: rest up, plenty of fluids, rest day diet

@TheOtherOne55 was spot on in his post. I’ll add from experience:

If you have a fever then stay home and sleep. Drop food to low/baseline levels.

Ramp vitamin c (Ester C) to 5000-10000mg daily.

Glutathione injections daily 100mg daily or 200mg EOD.

Foundational supplements- D3, electrolytes, b vitamins, etc.

While you want to rest when sick to minimize downtime, you also want to ensure you’re moving and getting sunlight. At minimum get outside and walk 20-30 min on these days. If you’re up for it still do your cardio.

Find a sauna, get red light therapy and hydrate. Get your meals in, limit stress and just stick to the plan.

The body is very resilient and can bounce back quickly when all nutrients and aspects are covered.

Far too many people drop the ball here. Simply pull back and then slowly moved back forward as the body is in a fragile yet responsive state deep in prep.

Thank you 🙏🏻what's your views on just running the glutathione anyway? For the last 4 weeks of prep whilst using orals

I personally keep glutathione in every 3 days year round- 200mg. As a competitive bodybuilder at this level I think it’s warranted.

The everyday person or TRT lifestyle guy should be fine just using NAC with periodic glutathione injections or IV’s as needed.
