HOW DO YOU..........

I use carb cycle to enhance weak bodypart. especially when cutting. from mon- sat, I diet hard and carbs drop lower towards sat, and cheat on sun. I train my weak bodypart on mon after carbing up and train my stronger bodypart on sat when I'm depleted.

I agree with Tenny that you aren't going to change the genetic hand you were dealt but i also believe that you can always use the hand to your best advantage. I try to look at my body as a whole after a show (even though I already know what needs to come up.) I don't say "Wow, look how much better I have gotten." Instead I look at the physique and pic it apart as a whole. Sure this looks good or that looks good but how does it all fit together.

This year it is VERY obvious that I need to get more sweep in the quads, more drop in the hams (getting better but need more), more pec thickness, still need more arms, calf's still are non existent, and I need to keep the waist nice and tight all year. What I am looking to change is the "X" fame as well as create more 3 dimensional shape. Am I big? Yes. Do you want to look me up and down to enjoy all of the dimensions of my physique? NO. Again you cannot change your genes but I am a firm believer you can make drastic changes year in and year out if you make the decision to truly focus on your weak points rather than just keep running with your strengths.

I will never have a beautiful physique but I can guarantee that one thing I will show the judges is a more complete and impressive physique each time I hit the stage. I think the judges are looking for change from athletes. Once they have been impressed by you and a look you bring they don't want to see that look again. They want it even better. If you make the needed sacrifices and show them change in time you will be rewarded for your efforts.

In short to bring up my weak bodyparts I call Dante and say "Hey, when am I coming out to San Diego so you can show me what to do this offseason." And the answer this year was September;)

Here is a shot before Dante took over.

And this is after 2 offseasons with Dante running the show. As you can see still a lot of work to do but the changes are there.

Dusty

You need to crop all three of those pics together and put that on your website Dusty. Your pics are the definition of progression!

Although I would like to take credit for Dusty's gains....I cannot...thats all hard work by Dusty over these last few years.

But I would like to take credit for one thing. Look at Dusty's face....he has gotten much better looking over these last few years......and I feel that is because of my doing. How? I got no idea, i just want to take credit for it. Dustys pictures are ending up on gay bodybuilding sites left and right so I know (besides me sending pics without Dustys knowledge to those webmasters and saying "hey go head and put these up on your site MuscleStuds.....huh? what?)....that Im not the only guy that see's he is getting better looking since starting DC training. The gays love that guy.

If he does end up getting his pro card....Dusty needs to do the San Francisco Pro show as he will own that crowd.

LOOLOLOLOL :p

Is that the new project you've been working on Dante....selling pics to gay porn sites so you can retire for good?

So what are the actual methods that you guys use? Maybe i missed it. Brad was pretty specific, but other than that I havent got much. Do you use more volume? Less volume? More frequent? Less frequent? When you say prioritize what exactly do you mean? Is that first in a series of workouts? Last? Do you avoid certain exercises that hit the target muscle on days you are not working it? Do you try to hit it a little on days you are hitting other muscles?

This photo comparison seems like a worthy addition to this thread, perhaps:

Ive been helping Cedric Mcmillan out with his shoulders, his biceps and his triceps this year....because he felt they looked lanky in some poses at the nationals when he won his pro card (pic below) last year.

And here we are at the present....2 days ago, guest posing.

YouTube - Cedric McMillan at Victory in the Valley

I think his shoulders, biceps and triceps (especially triceps, check out those first few poses when he gets up on the stage) have come up pretty dramatically.

Widowmakers = they aint easy but if you find the right productive exercise they sure as hell get the job done.

How to bring up lagging bodyparts? Probably the most answered question in MD when pros and new pros are interviewed....I guess most of you know the answer..increase frequency. Once a week workouts changes to one heavy day and one ligth day for that body part. Or if for instance you lack thickness on back; split up your back workout and have one session with only rowing movements.

Dante not sure if you saw or or already heard but there was a feature on Cedric in MD this month and a lot of credit was given to your help... pretty cool to see.

Interesting topic Old Fella. Some of the comments on here assume "full, complete, effort" already. For myself, I've found that I probably have never put forth actual "complete" effort, therefore some basic measures worked for me.

My shoulders were weak. The fact is they were always a source of pain on average nine months out of the year and often made a neck problem flair up. The result: "For years I would "short change" shoulders". If my workout cycle involved missing a day that week, it would be shoulders hands down. The next week I would pick up at the beginning rather than start with shoulders. That is one example. If I was on vacation traveling and got some gym time, you bet your hiney it would not be shoulders. Now please understand that this was not a conscious decision. It only seems clear looking back on it. (The is the best vision isn't it).

When I focused on shoulders, put time into a program design and adopted a "shoulder" first attitude, results followed. If I missed a few days and had to restart my training sequence, it was shoulders, etc. In one year it made a huge difference. So for me, it was basically mental approach. I was practicing a form of the "beach muscle" boys syndrom. I would do what I was best at, and ignore what hurt.

I recently shifted my focus to back and traps. Please understand I have been fearful of trap, neck, work for years because of getting "spasms" that were debilitating. Guess what? The extra back and trap focus improved my "balance" and neck spasms are a rare occurence and I have made gains.

At my level, non elite, heck, non-average even, I have so much head room left to make gains that the solutions like Syntherol are totally unnecessary. I am going to bet that for the all but the elite, this is the case.

I always thought I was training with a full, balanced, effort. That is the important point. It is difficult to admit to yourself that regardless of the relentlless balls to the wall workout warrior you invision yourself to be, you are still leaving something on the table.

Its kind of like that example of filling a jar with marbles, thinking its full, then with BBs, then with Sand and then with water. Each time it was "full" it had plenty of room for more. We are typically not as "full" as we think we are!

I wish all things in life gave a true a payback as focus and effort in training!

arm have been my curse, but i have been doing anything and everything i can think of to try and make them grow. i think you got to have an open mind, and let the ego go so you can try new things ,and never give up! just be determined and focus on your goal and always believe in your self. i'm still not happy with my arms; but i know they will look amazing next time under the lights.

I think a lot of people tend to overtrain their weak points. That may be more of a newbie phenomenon, but it's what I've noticed in the many gyms over the years.
