How long before sleep you eat your last meal? And what you eat?

something like 130gm protein, all from a protein milk shake, usually blends, trace carb, trace fat, finish right before I hit the rack. zero issues with gut, nor sleep doing such.

I eat my last meal around 7:15-7:30, finished cooking and eating by 8. In bed at 10.

Here's last night's meal, which is one of two staples these days.

300g (raw weight) chicken
125g mixed veggies
150-200g rice
1-2Tbsp EVOO

I also have a small shake right before bed of magnesium, glycine, eaas, mucuna purinens and a small amount of dextrose. PXL_20250802_101739327~2.jpg

I like to be full when I go to bed, I sleep better. Usually 750ml of fairlife (250ml chocolate,500ml skim) 1 or 2 bagels with 30-60g of home made macadamia nut butter, I also do 1 ounce of high potency dha/epa fish oil in a medicine cup

I keep the house at 70-71 degrees in the summer.
We’d definitely be an arguing couple lol. Not sure where you live but that’s pretty hot for the summer for me!

100%. The basics have always worked. If these guys spent the time they do looking to reinvent the wheel on sticking to what works, they'd be better off.

99% of what I see is pushed by influencers looking for engagement. Thats all anyone needs to know.
I wouldn’t call deviating from this “reinventing the wheel” and I surely wouldn’t say people eating carbs before bed for example are doing it from influencers pushing for engagement lol.

It’s just about finding what works best for you.

No one said eating carbs before bed is reinventing the wheel. Im talking about all the hot topics people grab off social media and come here asking if anyone has tried it.

If that isnt influencer sauce, what is? The sugar diet? On a bodybuilding board, that would be considered reinventing the wheel.

I dont see these posts talking about these diets like they are doing it and it works so well, they have to recommend it. They are looking for input on it. Look into it and theres an influencer somewhere looking for clicks.

It's over 90 degrees in the summer here. A lot of people keep the house at 78. I start sweating my ass off pretty quickly.

You could try to keep it at 67 or lower but most peoples AC wont be able to and the air it's pumping in would have most people freezing.

Florida btw.

Well… that was the topic being addressed in his comment initially however I guess I drew the conclusion incorrectly that it was part of the discussion. Apologies.

All good. I might have read into his comment further than he meant to convey with his post.

I assume he's talking about the number of post regarding diets that are so far outside the traditional way of doing this that it makes me think the guys asking in the first place ask a lot of overcomplicated questions when a bodybuilding is pretty straightforward for the most part.

I get the vibe a lot of these people arent getting the results they want using the "old ways" so theyre looking for the secret sauce instead of tweaking what we know works or hiring a coach.

Or maybe they just really like variety, results be damned. I dont get to involved in those posts but it seems most of the responses to them are of the mind I am.

I think a bigger problem on social media now is people being unwilling to try things and always asking for permission from their favorite influencers. This is why there are so many stupid questions like “Can I recover from X sets for Y body part”.

im only 5,5" and like Jose Raymond i tried the whole stuffing my face nonstop to grow, waking up during the night to because i threw up prob cause my belly was overfilled, not a great plan, sleep is so important and i sleep better on a half full stomach than a full on.

I think this is very individual.
Personally after testing many different approaches what allows me to sleep better (last meal 30~45min before bed) is a combination of small amount of slow digesting carbs (oats e.g.), easy digestible protein source (whey or egg whites...if I eat dairy or salmon it does not sit well) and some added fat (10 to 15g) to meet the daily requirements since I add fat on first and last meal only.
In prep, removing carbs from last meal is one of the first adjustments to the diet and then it becomes a creami with almond milk, whey and 15g almonds.

Funny this was posted and I replied right before bed. I had said I like to be full... Was feeling tired and wanted to go to bed early but had one meal left. So it was only about 1.5hrs after ground beef/rice/veggies I had my whey/rice cakes/almond butter/banana and I felt too full and didnt sleep as good. In fact I still feel full this morning like it is digesting very slow.

So yeah I like a decent sized meal before bed to stay full but I do sleep bad when over full so I can see why some opt for protein/fat.

Now that I think about it - my sleep has improved over the last weeks when I switched to training in the AM, judging by the lower amount of sleep I need (usually 8hours, right now I feel good on 6). A result of training early was that my last meal is now 1-2 hours away from bedtime, as opposed to right before bed - and I also do a short walk right before bed which further helps digestion. So who knows, maybe this was a factor in the improvement - but too many things changed at once, first and foremost bodyweight decreased, which always improves sleep by reducing apnea issues. And maybe training too close to bedtime also negatively impacts sleep.

I will keep an eye on it now that all the other factors are more consistent, for sure 😅

Got caught up in responding to other people.

Wrong thread

A good thread to start. I agree.

Its the last thing I do before bed other than brush my teeth. Lol. I have to get FULL. My stomach literally will not let me sleep if I get hungry. Hell I'm 52. What happened to slower metabolism as we age. I wish.

If I were to train in the evening I would never get to sleep. I train in the early am. After I work all day its not usually too hard to get to sleep. Too damn tired.

I was anorexic when I was younger; I dread going to bed hungry more than anything. It wouldn’t surprise me if there was some sort of physiological conducting that goes on with deep dieting where the body thinks it’s going to starve going to bed hungry.
