When I was a teenager (a decade ago) I had to eat 4-5k to gain. Now that my metabolism has slowed down a bit, I stick to whatever "minimum" number I need to continue to see the scale move (albeit slowly). 3500 usually does the trick.
 
Never been one to count calories, but I'm sure I consume between 7-10k...when I'm "bulking".Certainly not all clean lol

Im willing to bet my life on you over estimating those calories there :)


Most i done when i was bulking was about 4.5-5k a day....Although i'd like to be able to calculate my diet when i first started training. Used to eat junk for every meal 6 times a day, as long as i got my protein in...everything else was junk. I miss having 10 mcdonald hash browns for breaky :(

I don't count when bulking but it's a lot. Definitely not all clean either. Since most people overestimate guesses, I'll be realistic and say about 5k on average.

I'm a solid 205 at 5'9. It only takes me just a few hundred over maintenance to grow and not turn into a fat ass. For you guys having to consume way over your bmr plus activites I honestly feel bad for you or maybe your just over estimating. I eat a clean 3500 and I do track my food. If I didn't track it and guessed It would probably be closer 5k b/c thats what it feels like when I eat nutrient rich clean foods vs greasy crap.

Btw, Shelbys numbers look right on point for someone his size not trying to turn into a butterball over night.
 
I always establish my maintenance calories by body weight then add 600 extra....I subtract 600 when cutting.

When I was 21 I could eat everything and still not gain. I agree.
 
I seriously cant answer that question I just eat eat and eat no counting cals
 
I don't think even ronnie coleman eats 7K calories a day.

The most is 5K to 5.5K a day
 
I am adding calories at an insanely slow rate every week. I just want to see how high I can get without any negative changes in my composition. Not necessarily bulking, but my average daily intake very close to what some would consider bulking at my weight. I lack the mental stability to just add 500 calories right off the bat. For me, it's just a recipe for spillover.
 
I have counted every single calorie ive consumed (aside from a few all out binges) for the past 4 years or so. To see the scale move in the past year or ao, I need at bare minimum 5000. Last couple times I tries to gain before this one I was legitimately taking in over 5500 a day, rarely ever was I below 6k, and many times over that. My appetite isn't what it used to be now, so I just make damn sure to hit 4200 or so so that I don't drop weight, its a pain in the ass. I used to love eating that much, now I envy those who can gain weight on 3500 cals..

Unfortunately I rarely count calories either, but I would guess 4-5k when on a bulker.
 
you would be surprised when you asked many bros on how many calories they consume as they usually over estimate. so if ur not keeping track of them then its useless. me on maintenance im at 3000 at im an amateur using the basic tools. but I know people who have estimate 5 or 6k and really only do 3k

Same here, I usually keep an eye on protein. After eating a lot of the same types of foods cycle after cycle its gets easy to estimate calories. If anything I underestimate my calories sometimes just to make sure im getting enough nutrition
