How many hours of sleep do you need for a good workout?

One of my New Years resolutions was to make my sleep I priority in 2018. I seem to have the best workouts with either 7 or 8 hours of sleep. Certainly not earth shattering news but anything less and believe it or not more than 8 hours seems to make no difference or even hinder my performance. What works for you?

Not sure about for a good workout but just for proper recovery in general I try to get as much as I can. I’d assume it’s the same answer for most. I try for 7-8.

8

7 at night and 1 hr nap in the evening works too, but 8 uninterrupted is ideal

I often wonder what kind of lives people have that they can get 8+ hours of sleep a night. I can't remember the last time I got 8 and mine's rarely uninterrupted without having to take a leak. Thinking back, I think some of my best workouts were when I had raging insomnia and I took my aggression out on the weights. I probably only get 6 interrupted hours a night. Its been getting better with some lifestyle changes, but I can't get 10 straight like some people have posted in other threads. I'd love that every so often.

4-6 is about the best I can fit in. I'll make up for it when I take my Dirt nap!

9 is my perfect #. Unfortunately it’s not allowed with 2 toddlers

Not all sleep is the same. You talking about 2iu gh, sex before bed, not stressed life kind of sleep? Then Yes 8-9 hours is perfect!

I'm lucky if I can get in 6 , even when I don't have anything to do after 6 hrs my body is just awake.

I honestly can't remember the last time I got 8 hrs of sleep when I wasn't heavily medicated.

Generally I get 4-5 hrs , sometimes I can squeeze in a couple 20 min naps

I would say ideally 6-7
but also depends on what you on, some stuff will increase the sleeping hours need some will reduce.

The more repair and recovery your body needs, the more sleep you need, obviously. I wish I had the time and luxury of going to bed when Im tired and letting natural sleep cycle wake me up, but the best I can do is 6-6.5 hrs a night. Depending on the work load, a 30 minute nap after work before hitting the gym works wonders

Oversleeping (more than 8-9h) is much more detrimental than undersleeping. One of the side effects of chronic oversleeping: sudden death. I kid you not.

From everything I've read, 6-7h seems to be your best bet. Eight is already pushing it. Nine and you risk being in your coffin a hell of a lot sooner.

The answer is more so how many sleep cycles are you actually getting per night.

About 7-8 hours:headbang:
