I usually think, I'll just have one drink... but then I just convince myself, first one drink isn't going to do anything and second it will hurt my gains.
I stop period 8 years ago, when my daughter was born, 11 months later, my second daughter was born. I have Irish twins and thank them everyday for being the reason I stopped drinking completely!
In my younger years I did.
But I haven't even had a sip of wine for at least 6 years, even on holidays.
Being diabetic, it really messes with my blood sugar/insulin balance.
I really like having a nice glass of red wine or two. Be it at a dinner or just the wine itself. A good quality beer too is also nice. But these days I don’t drink often. Almost only at social events.
Even just a little alcohol isn’t beneficial to my diet/weight loss and furthermore I’m starting to appreciate less and less how the hangovers can ruin my work outs or the discipline to doing them in the first place
I never go out and drink to drink or ever buy it to keep in the house, but now that I'm old(33) if someone special to me like my Dad or a loved one wants to share a beer or a cocktail with me I will most definately have a drink or two. for the first ten years of living this bodybuilders lifestyle....I never ever would drink. I wouldn't even have a drink with my Dad or a good friend I hadn't seen in a long time. Several years ago I realized that it's no big deal to have a drink here and there especially if it's a chance to spend some time with those important to me. I regret the times I wouldn't have a drink with my Dad cause I was worried it would jeopardize my "gains" lol
but I certainly don't need to drink to have a good time
And while I'm not saying it contributed to his physique at all...........Frank zane in his training diaries mentioned he drank a glass of red wine every night while preparing for the 1979(I believe it was the '79 olympia) mr olympia. He was trying to put on size and He certainly was at his biggest in those years.
And while I don't for a second think his wine drinking had anything to do with his gains I certainly don't think it held him back either
