How much do you spend on food?

The basics…

9lbs ground turkey (85/15) $26
3 large tubs 2% cottage cheese $9
2 loaves sourdough $8
5lb pork loin roast $15
5lbs chicken breast $13
Assorted fruits/veggies $25
Coffee grounds $8
3 doz eggs $6
Cheese $5
Canned mackerel/sardines $5
Rice/potatoes/oats in varying amounts say $5

$125ish for me for my basics (family is well in addition but these are my staples). I’ll rotate in red meat and total goes up.
Ty....do you freeze the bread???? you can also freeze cheese.

I spend around $400 at Costco which last me about two weeks I'd guess. I spend money eating out but I'm not counting that. Prices are shit now days on pretty much everything. It would be great if I was hunting, fishing etc to get my meat, save a lot that way

I think I worded that badly about steak.. I can cook it. I meant what cuts are you getting for reasonable prices. Sirloin is 12.99. I think strip is more like 14.99. Compared to 4.99 ground beef lol.

I have no problem going out. I love a good brunch, burger, sushi... some Italian. But that comes from a different funding in my budget. I dont mind paying for those because to me it is more of an occasion/social event than just eating. Now a random meal at 11a or on the couch at 9pm watching football.. those are the ones I like to keep basic and cheap.

Beef shortage right now. Basically cyclical low on cattle so just timing. This is driving up prices on all cuts. Some inflation residual is still being passed to consumer on a number of food products as well (they do it over time so as not to shock and disrupt market). Sucks like you said.

Normally I'd get 88/12 ground beef for 2.99 per lbs. Now it's 4.99 or even in the 5s. I used to also find some higher fat 1.99 where I'd stock up when on that sale.

Same with beef/steak cuts. Just all higher. I love a good steak and don't mind paying but for daily utility eating right now it's a lot more pork and chicken/turkey. Brisket, which I'll smoke, is still 4.99lbs and I'll get a 12-16lbs piece on average.

Is what it is. I still do beef in rotation but not as much. Certainly does make cutting a good economic alternative!

My travel this week appears to be canceled so might hit Costco and do a big smoke later this week or early next. Obviously turkey day coming too so will have a ton of that!

we some big boys.....we need food!!!

and dont eat like birds.
You say this and then average bro here is wasting their money being fooled by marketing on "organic" and "pasture raised" crap paying 2x the price for the same item. You can't beat your chest about eating big blah blah and then buy some hipster shit because u think itll make your shit sprinkle.
There is something to be said about the protein quality when comparing animal proteins (this includes dairy and eggs) and plant proteins due to their amino acid composition, but among meats themselves, they are all identical. The protein from a $2.5/lb chicken breast is identical to the $30/lb rib eye. And really youre getting much more protein from the chicken due to rib eye and most higher end meats (salmon being another example) being so fatty.

Yes eat foods that agree with your gut and that you like , but your body doesn't care where the macros come from and cant taste price. Your whole digestive system is designed to break down any and all foods to their most fundamental components to be utilized by the body. Any dude eating a normal 2k-4k calorie diet should be spending more than $150-200/wk on food. Thats including spices and sauces. Without that you can easily get by with sub 100 a week. And really I thought thats what the old school body builders prided themselves on, "food is just fuel" blah blah.

You sound really competent. Pls tell us more

assuming i dont eat out i've got mine pretty budget friendly for a 350g protein diet.

weekly:
$35 14lb breast
$12 sauce for the chicken
$14 7gallons skim
$12 choc/strawberry syrup for the milk

so $73 total a week for the main stuff. the rest like rice and seasonings are practically negligible, bought in bulk and probably amount to less than a few bucks a week

edit: sometimes i'll only eat 1lb of breast a day instead of 2, then the protein will be made up for by whey. which ends up being a roughly similar total cost.

I was just in the store I usually shop at. 90/10 beef is currently $7.49/lb here. It’s insane.

What was it prior? That’s about what 93/7 is here. It’s been on sale the last few trips at $6.50 which was the regular price last year.

Brown in pan- drain
Fill pan back up w water , bring to boil, hit w potato masher- drain
Put meat in colander and rinse with fresh boiling water

Food is getting expensive. Where do you find your ground turkey under 3 dollars a pound?
Aldi

85/15 3lb trays $8.49 currently, sale 7.99 often

$5-5.5 I’ve been rinsing and then seasoning it too.

It’s crazy how the prices on food have gone up. 5 years ago when I was bulking I followed Hafthor’s diet from Stan Efferding (the choices not the calorie count) and I was eating 2lbs of ribeye a day. Now I can’t fit ribeye in my budget at all.

I try to spend under $200 a week. For me now it’s mainly chicken breast, lean ground bison and beef, ground Turkey, eggs, oatmeal, rice, and various fruits. And a gallon of milk a day. Still have to buy food for my family too, that’s just for me
