How much does fasting matter for bloodwork numbers?

My friend went to the doc Monday and they did blood work right on the spot, he wasn't fasted in fact he had BBQ and ice cream the night before and breakfast that morning....even got silly drunk Saturday night. Of course his lipids, glucose and ALT/AST numbers came back all crazy, his doc said the fasting didn't matter for the results which I had never heard before.

I'm not completely discounting the numbers on the blood work but how much does it really matter that he was pretty much the complete opposite of fasted?

That’s the first thing I said, told him you had a banana split and a double scoop of rainbow sherbet 12 hours prior not to mention breakfast how could that not have possibly affected your glucose at the very least. Boggles my mind that his doc said it didn’t matter, I thought maybe I’m just wrong and don’t know shit….which I feel like every doctor tries to convince you of.

Fasted for 12 hours, even after eating shit, your numbers will be back to baseline (which could still be high, but is your normal). Lipids are also affected by breakfast meal. Even drinking no water and just black coffee can affect the blood draw itself. I was at the office, decided to pull labs that day and did not drink water, only coffee, my veins are like ropes but they just would not bleed from being dehydrated. ALT/AST are longer term numbers.

Let me guess your friend is on gear now? Hoping the 500mg tren will "burn off" all the shit he eats? I hope not.

I’d question where that doctor attended college. That’s beyond ignorant.

I've had a heavy fat meal before getting bloods pulled once. After the test tube is spun in a centrifuge, the blood separates into its individual components and you can actually see the extra lipids mixed in blood plasma. Blood plasma is usually a translucent yellow to white color. The heavy fat meal before produced blood plasma looks like a white cloud or milky white. Pretty gross.

Heres is example below, left vial is a normal looking sample, right vial is with heavy lipids. Mine wasn't nearly this thick but light white cloudy. Gross. Eh.. You are what you eat.

Not fasting would affect triglycerides, insulin and glucose. The rest of the numbers not really.
