How much EPA/DHA do you try to get in?

I forgot about looking at the source of the funding. Honestly, unless I hear something compelling, I am going to go back to a high quality combined epa/dha supplement and aim for 3 grams of the two combined. Better for my wallet anyway.

I agree. And if evidence begins to appear that is so compelling as to be indisputable, we shouldn't be so stuck in our ways that we can't make the changes. This is still evolving and many of the recent studies are 2018-2020 which is great for us! But check the doctors who led the study, who they work for/represent, and past research. There's obviously gold in omega-3's and they know it. I think what might be going on here is a race to find and develop or synthesize a pure form of that gold for sale by Rx.

Also, just another hint. The medication Vascepa, a prescription omega-3 EPA product is $99 to $380 for 120 capsules. LOL! I highly doubt they want you buying Now brand for $21 for 120 caps.

Yeah. It drives me nuts how much conflicting info surrounds omega 3.
Remember that a lot of people are buying rancid oils that are possibly doing harm by being oxidated before you even ingest them. I suggest everyone do their research and buy high quality fish oil from the most reputable companies. Yes, it will cost more than going to CVS or Walmart but you often times get what you pay for and the difference isn't always that large if you shop a little.

Fully agreed. My preferred brand is Metagenics' OmegaGenics EPA-DHA 1000. It's pricey, but if you look into the company and their own analysis and research, you'll see why.

Fuck the studies look at the cultures that subside on fish, they live long as hell fuck a study

Eskimo populations have life expectancies of well over 60 years in US and 79.5 years in CAN and eat whale blubber. Pacific Islanders, Indo- and Micronesia, fruits and fish/seafood. Japan, Finland, Denmark, on and on... And many live hard lives in often sub-zero temps.

I remember reading years ago on the boards (not sure if it was bioscience) people would say it was the ratio of your fat intake the was important. Meaning if you eat 100g total fat per day, you need more omega 3 than someone eating 40g. I think it was said the ratio of omega 3 to omega 6 was important for insulin sensitivty/body composition. No idea if true.

not sure of breakdown without labels in front of me but 2 tablespoons Carlsons liquid fish oil, 2 viva krill capsules and a can or 2 of sardines or mackerel daily. dropped my triglycerides 100 points in last year..but I also cleaned up my diet, lost weight and stayed consistent overall so can't say how much is from fish oil but im sure its an impact..I switched to the Carlsons liquid 6 months ago as I trust it more than capsules as far of chance of being rancid.
interesting...any other evidence backing the capsule claim?

did you notice a bigger improvement with carlsons vs using the capsules in blood work?

I lived on Okinawa for 3 years where being 100 is not uncommon. It’s not cold but lotta typhoons and the farmers work hard til the day they die. The literally subside on fish, rice, and sweet potatoes.

I probably consume less than most of you (3.6g total with ~1g of omega 3), but an anecdote for you. I dropped fish oil a few years back and shortly afterwards my joints started to hurt. They continued to hurt for about a week before I realized that it might have to do with dropping the fish oil. I reintroduced it back into my small list of supplements and a week later, no joint pain. My joints continue to feel good, so I'm a believer.

I've been taking a double dose of Omegalyze morning and night for years so can't really say if it's changed things - daily totals are 2,160mg EPA and 1,440mg DHA.

While I can't prove it, I believe my high dose fish oil has helped with never having serious injuries or strains, no nagging aches and pains, good bloodwork, no inflammation issues, etc.

Same. I never get the strains, pulls, stiffness that everyone is talking about. But I'm not going to drop the omega-3s to find out, lol! I'll take @old timer 's anecdote as proof enough. I also consume a lot of capsaicin from hot sauce and NAC. I do not need any excess inflammation.

all lipids improved but as stated triglycerides dropped 100 points when I switched to liquid...I was using 6 caps a day. a major part I believe was consistency in overall habits, eating ,exercise etc I also eat grass fed beef which has a good fat profile.. higher fat diet ,using salt, veggies as carb source when needed and major improvements. had 0 calcium score at age 64 so I will continue on with this protocol.. ldl, Hdl improved but trigs was dramatic..

Yea Omegas are highly ant-inflammatory from head to toe

I've also noticed this the times I've run out.

okinawans and sardinia in italy have the highest density of centurion population in the globe, also test for highest levels of omega 3 and taurine unanimously... one can infer most of the seafaring communities (espec Mediterranean with olive oil access) with proper access to contemporary living/medical etc live longer
