Just did my first show last Saturday, I want to hear your experiences with how you guys reversed, were you successful? How’d you control cravings ? Anything you would have done different ? I want to nail this reversal 🤝
 
its quite simple - dont overdo it on food/salt.
enjoy 2-3 cheat meals and get back to your regular diet. Add in carbs slowly and remove activity slowly.
If you gain 20+ pounds within the first 2 days after your comp you definitely overdid it and your health wont thank you.
This is also the time many competitors have to go to ER due to that
 
When I was still competing, I only gained weight after my first ever show.

And it wasn’t because I was binge eating — not at all. I just jumped straight into a caloric surplus the next day. I didn’t eat crazy amounts of food, I’ve never had problems with binge eating or anything like that.
But the next day after the show, I started a diet with a surplus, added a lot of insulin (basically with every meal), plus growth hormone, and I literally exploded — I gained 15 kg in the first two days. I still remember it — it was terrible. My ankles were the size of a my knee lol. But back then everyone told me it’s fine, that it’s “normal”.


Well… it’s not normal. But anyway. After every other show, I never gained weight again. Usually, one or two weeks after the show, I weighed less than on stage day. I would actually lose 2–3 kg, and only around week 3 post-show I started gaining again.
 
After my first show 24 hours later on the same scale i was 19 pounds heavier. And can't say i really pigged out didn't have a lot of cravings just saw no reason not to eat. Never really felt stuffed. Just all the water and food got sucked up. Was back on a meal plan 2 days post show and lost about 4 of those pounds after a week. After that i would eat a good meal after a show but mostly just slowly upped my calories. I have had buddies gain 50 pounds in a couple weeks post show before they headed to the Dr for the water retention and BP issues.

I'm about 9 days post show and i'm up 10-15. Nothing terrible.

This is also the first prep where i wasn't starving and food obsessed at the end. My IG in previous preps was basiscally bomb restaurants i wanted to eat at before. But every year you learn a little more. Learn to reign it in better, steer it straighter. As with anything.
I basically had some Mediterranean food post show and some Mexico food the next day and all the rest were bodybuilding meals (chicken/rice, COR, etc). Immediately back on plan since then. But it also is heavily dependent on YOU and YOUR COACH'S PLAN post show. Some coaches want a slow reverse diet (feel like this is archaic now) so of course the scale weight is slow and steady because overall calories are still low. But John Meadows, Justin Harris and others liked to get out of the starving gut hormone low body fat zone as fast as possible, just so binge eating is avoided at all costs. And with that, there DEFINITELY will be some weight fluctuations because carbs are introduced hard.

You should learn yourself better with every prep and hopefully be able to steer the ship a little better.

I think low days were 70g protein, 35g carbs and 10g fat at their lowest lol
 
This year was my worst experience with this ever and my most control post show diet. I had a meal and dessert after the show with family at brownstone pancake factory. Next morning I had breakfast at a diner, a couple clean meals and then dinner which was a sub and a couple slices of white pizza. Monday morning I resumed my diet 100%. Tuesday morning I was up 20lbs from stage weight, my legs were completely smooth and water logged, could barely move my feet. I felt like death for multiple days. I started going to bed lighter than I woke up, tried training, sauna, 2 gallons of water. My body had a horrible reaction to the diuretics I guess. Was not irresponsible post show, by Tuesday I was afraid to even have a snack outside my meal plan. In previous years I had been a much bigger asshole with my diet and never had this happen. This wasn’t like fast food hopping or anything stupid.

Most recently I was 6lbs over my stage weight last Thursday morning for check in 253 on stage 259lbs last Thursday. So yeah horrible experience I never want to repeat.

100% a diuretic thing. If u don’t mind me asking, were u using? Something other than dyazide?
 
After my 1st show I did exactly what you’re not supposed to. I was young, stupid, there wasn’t a ton of info pre-internet about contest prep let alone post-contest protocols to not be a ridiculous idiot. I definitely binged for like 2 days then it was kind of an unofficial dirty bulk for about 2-3 weeks. I just remember after the 2nd binge day my calves were so full that it literally ungodly hurt just sitting there. That was actually just what made me put the brakes on the binge. Going back I wish I had more of an actual coach. There wasn’t anyone available at the time or accessible even and I wish I was more in tune with my body and metabolism. Putting on weight/size was far far less of a problem than getting lean. I should’ve come back slow or even stayed lean for a while. In the 3 weeks I probably gained 30ish if I remember correctly.

thats pr day or pr meal? lol

Damn thats a rough daily intake but not too bad for 5-6 meals.

What helped you stay less food focused this time around? what do you attribute being able to not starve this time around?

Per meal brother lol i would die if it was per day.

Honestly, i wish i knew. My goal WAS to use reta this prep and i ended up chickening out and never running it.
I bought a bottle on ModernAminos and have actually coach a handful of guys using it, just picking up pointers and lots of data on how it was affecting dieting guys, but it neverrrr felt like the right time to throw it in. I DID use SLU PP and Methylene Blue though and i felt like those significantly cut my normal energy expenditure output a good amount. Not that i did a TON of cardio for preps, but last prep Justin had me doing 30 mins of HIIT at like 8 weeks out before putting me in 2 LISS sessions a day....this prep i did 30 mins of LISS at the end, thats it. PWO.
So weird how preps change from year to year. One year you are truly killlling yourself to move an inch....the next it feels easy.
Overall fatigue in terms of just "im too tired to move and get up" was down too. Yeah, i was tired and trying to not be a dick to my wife but i was more "with it" and not as miserable as a person lol

Interesting, this mirrors what joseph pircher said on his podcast recently about his prep, its been the "easiest" prep hes had so far. He also uses slupp but im not sure on the methylene blue, and he said he feels like it made a big difference in how well the prep had been going and how he was feeling. i believe hes using reta as well though, so theres many variables in play.
