How would you train for a strongman event

I'm going to compete in strongman next month.
I'm not into powerlifting, so I have no clue how to train for it.

I figure bench squat deadlift shoulderpresses and tricep work.

How many days a week should I train?
what trainingsplit?

Thanks

Strongman training is both very basic and very individualized. Training is constantly evolving not only based on weak points, but on the events being performed. You need to build up a massive base of strength on all the main compounds lifts (squat, deadlift, overhead press, etc), as well as train the event lifts. However, strongmen also need strong biceps (and every other muscle), unlike powerlifters, so training is very comprehensive.

Basically, it's pretty much impossible to tell you how YOU need to train for strongman, as every strongman's program is uniquely suited to himself. In my opinion, it is the most fascinating and complex type of training of any of the strength sports.

At the same time, you will find many competitors at the lower levels of competition who are not anywhere near as prepared as what I am advocating here. At the lower and possibly even intermediate levels, just having a solid base of strength on all the basic gym lifts may allow you to do well in competition...but if you ever want to progress to the advanced level, you are going to need to find a strongman gym/facility...and join up with a group of guys who already own the necessary equipment.

You don't have time. Put on a massive strength cycle and train only the event's lifts 3x a week plus some cardio the other 4 days.

goto a gym that has the equipment and train with those in the same sport

Jesse Marunde knew how to train for strongman comps.....he grew up in my home town. Follow his program......!

A few years ago i was going to see the event not to compete. They asked me to compete lol i didnt eat that morning and did a hour of cardio. I thought i was going to make a fool of myself but placed 1st at the vicking press and second best time for truckpulling. IT was really fun to do. A big crowd cheering for you is something special.

I prefer to recommend the conjugate method to structure the workouts. The conjugate method consists of three methods called the maximal, dynamic, and repeated effort. As for the diet, eating 1.5-2 grams of protein per day, carbs after exercise but kept fairly low (depends how tolerant you are), and high healthy fats.:p

The lifts are very different than a barbell. If I were you I'd go a gym that has strongman equipment, talk to the guys there, and focus on practicing the skill. Know what events you are going to be doing and just do those. I wouldn't even play with barbells just learn the technique.
