I've got a question for you Pro's or Experienced guys. I would like to experiment with
Insulin. I have done a lot of reading on the subject. I was thinking
Humalog.

Now I'm quite sure that it depends on your dose of insulin but do you think
I would be okay with a double-serving of one of the dextrose/creatine
products on the market. Two servings of Phosphagen HP is about 70 grams of
dextrose. So 70 grams of dextrose and soon very soon following 50 grams of
whey protein mixed with 12 oz. of milk.

Would this suffice? 70 grams dextrose with 50 grams whey concurrent with a
post work-out dose of Humalog...........not to mention the limited number of
carbs in the milk.

Is this enough carbs or would I still run the risk of going hypo?

depends on the dose obviously but you will ALWAYS risk going hypoglycemic unless you get a blood glucometer - at least until you know exactly how your body responds to 4iu, 6iu, 8iu, etc. Also you can do a search on insulin and find some great articles here in the articles section.
 
The rule of thumb is 10g of quick carbs per iu of insulin. I tend to go a bit over that, but then I have a fairly fast metabolism and don't tend to get fat easily. Of course, like everyone else has said, you need to learn how your body respondsbecause each one of us is a bit different.

Remember, the 10g/1iu is just a safe starting point.
 
I am one of the lucky ones being that I am Diabetic and am prescribed Humalog as a medication. Humalog will definitely assist in making gains. In fact I am capable of putting on mass amounts of muscle by just playing with my doses. When it comes down to dosing there are so many outside factors that play into it that there really is no set dosing that works for everyone the same. Like some of the others have mentioned you just have to play with it. The good thing about Humalog compared to regular insulin is that it acts very quickly (usually within 5 Min) and doe not last for very long (usually 2 hrs). Therefore if you take too much you only have to battle to keep your sugar levels up for a short amount of time. I also want to clear up another fallacy that seems to float around about insulin. That is you have to be extremely careful because it can kill you. This is not exactly true. The insulin will not kill you. You actually could take 100 iu and never eat a thing. Your blood sugar will drop very low. Low enough in fact to probably make you pass out and even possibly seize. However, your body has a built in defense for this with your liver. Your liver will eventually produce glycogen (or sugar) to bring you out of it. You will awake with a super hangover and feel like shit for the rest of the day but you will survive. There are some exceptions however to this. Alcohol affects your livers ability to produce glycogen. Therefore if you have been drinking you definitely could die. Like I said earlier insulin itself will not kill you. What you need to be careful of is your surroundings. If your blood sugar drops and you are doing something, such as driving, death is only a step away. I have always used my insulin to help me gain quicker and also it definitely helps with PCT. Just make sure you research thoroughly and be safe. Hope this helps. :D
 
Nate, welcome to ProM. Please tell us how you've used insulin to increase your gains. When you've taken it, how much, what sort of carbs you used to balance it out, etc.

I will start by trying to educate all that may not know how insulin works in the human body. For all those who are very experienced in the medical field this will seem very basic but I do not want to get to deep for those who may not completely understand endocrinology. Insulin acts as a key that unlocks the cells of the body so that they may absorb nutrients that have been consumed. The way it affects bodybuilding is the way protein is absorbed into the muscle cells. By no means am I stating that insulin is all you need to make gains but especially while cycling insulin will magnify the absorption of essential nutrients into the muscle cells. I of course use it consistently throughout the day because my body does not produce insulin. But to speak to those who have a normal operating pancreas, you do not need to take multiple shots throughout the day. The way I would use insulin is a small dose (probably between 2 - 4 iu) before each meal. This will aid in the absorption of essential proteins into the cells. I also take a small amount (again 2 - 4 iu after I get home from the gym. I usually go in the evening so I usually take the small shot when I get home. I also take my Creatine, NO2, and a protein shake with this. This allows all of those nutrients to immediately enter the muscles that are craving substance. I have tried this both ways (taking a shot after a workout and also not) and I will tell you that the gains are a lot quicker when you do it the way I just stated. Insulin will work great but you also need to know that you must remain active. Insulin also promotes your body to store the nutrients and proteins in all your body’s cells including fat cells. So you do not want to over do it due to your body gaining fat as well as muscle. The thing I have learned is to be very moderate on your fat and carbs and load up on the protein when using insulin for this purpose. I will also state that for all of those that have not have great outcomes with OTC supplements, insulin will help this. Humalog is the best because of its quickness in working and short life. But you can also use Regular. You just have to be prepared to do everything I stated in the previous post for about eight hours and it also takes almost 30 minutes before it begins working. The very last thing I will mention is that some of the gear will affect how the insulin works in the body. Clen and Anadrol, Dbol, and even Winny tend to make insulin a little less effective so therefore higher doses may be necessary. However, test, deca, and tren (with me) tend to make me drop my blood sugar levels due to I guess the way the protein is synthesized while on these hormones. It is something you will just have to play with and tweak as you go. The other funny thing is that your blood sugar levels will fluctuate due to how much insulin you take, how much you eat and how much exercise you do. So it is a true three ring circus but can be done. Hope this helps. :D

Excellent post. I am able to prepare a much better mental image of the process because I've been fumbling with it to be honest. I was diagnosed with late-onset type II. I CAN live without insulin and there are pills I can take but I asked just for a long-acting insulin so I got Humalog. I produce insulin but not enough for the quantities of food I eat. Since going from 190 - 240, I think my pancreas just couldn't handle the extra workload. Now I'm insulin free but I still have my Rx. I'm also back down at 215 which I think helped as I'm low in the carbs department now for diet.

I still wonder about about BBer's of yesteryear preaching about high carb diets. Mentzer I think? And vegetarian diets too. How did they avoid getting fat on all those carbs!!!??? crazy. And veggies?? That would take some SERIOUS dedication to diet. Thanks nate.
