Hypothetical question

The bottom line is each person's genes. Training stimulates the muscle to respond and grow according to the muscles genetic potential. If Tom Platz had never done a squat in his life and only used leg presses and extensions his quads would have looked the same. Yates and Ray looked the way they did despite whatever training method got them there.

This is easy. Shawn would look like Dorian, and Dorian would look like Shawn:D

Both seem pretty intelligent and I think each found what worked for them.

Some good input from a friend:

"Well unfortunately this is a question that cannot be answered by training alone. It's multifactorial. Do we assume dietary, supplemental, ergogenic aid, rest/recovery, and last but not least physiological/DNA response to stressors the same for each? We can't assume that. So this question cannot be answered with yes or no. I will say that with heavier, higher intensity resistance training type IIx fiber is recruited predominantly. Type II fiber has a substantial greater ability for hypertrophy than type I. That doesn't mean type I cannot hypertrophy. But not nearly to the same extent. So this is why having heavier movements, lower volume apart of ones training regiment would be progressive to the goal of hypertrophy. But along with higher volume resistance training the stimulus of type I and type IIab which are hybrids of type II that have higher oxidative abilities than type IIx would have a larger cross sectional area than just strength trainings influence on type IIx alone."

I was under the impression the body recruits the smallest muscle fibers that can do the job and works up to larger fibers as the small fibers fatigue. So wouldn't high volume training still hit the large fast twitch fibers once the slow twitch fatigue? So you should be able to stimulate and activate the IIX fibers in the later sets/reps?

I dunno ...but I rode in a elevator in Vegas with Shawn ray...he was tiny, joints, height, ect...I don't think his body could have taken the abuse of menzer style training. Not taking anything away from him either he had a amazing physique

This is the way I look at it. Dorian and Ronnie Coleman lifted hard and heavy and we all know how many Mr. Olympia's they won. Shawn Ray and Flex Wheeler lifted the way they did and probably had better genetics and we see how many Mr. O's they won so............putting your bias a side for your favorite guys draw your own conclusions.

I don't know that a trophy or lack there of necessarily validates a training style. There are just so many variables that make up a physique besides training methods. All the books and authors with their various spin and suggestions on how to train has done more for making authors rich then making bodybuilders bigger...
