I SEEM TO HAVE MORE ENERGY WITH AN INCREASED FAT INTAKE AND A LOWER CARB LEVEL.......I DON'T KNOW WHY THIS IS TRUE. I'VE BEEN FOOLING AROUND TRYING SOME THINGS OUT.

FOR EXAMPLE: I'LL WAKE UP....DRINK A BUNCH OF WATER, TAKE SOME ECA AND EITHER TRAIN OR GET ON THE TREADMILL/BIKE/ WHATEVER.

WHEN I GO THROUGH OUT THE DAY ON VIRTUALLY NO CARBOHYDRATES I STAY WIRED........NO DIP IN ENERGY THROUGHOUT THE DAY. LATER AFTER A WORKOUT I'LL HAVE MY HIGH CARB MEAL. THEN ITS BACK DOWN TO A PROTEIN SOURCE AND SOME FISHOIL OR ALMONDS.

I'VE TRIED THIS FOR A WEEK AT A TIME....THE RESULTS ARE REALLY GOOD FOR ME...MY FACE STAYS UNBLOATED [REGARDLESS OF WATER RETENTIVE SUBSTANCES I MIGHT BE INGESTING] I LOOK MUCH, MUCH BETTER.....PEOPLE THINK I AM GETTING READY FOR SOMETHING AND ASK, BUT I AM NOT.

THE NEXT WEEK OR TWO I'VE GONE BACK TO LOWER FAT....SWITCHED THE FAT CALORIES FOR CARB CALORIES....KEPT THE PROTEIN THE SAME.

I LOOK WORSE AND FEEL SLUGGISH.....TIRED....ABSOLUTELY NEED A NAP DURING THIS TIME USING THIS TYPE OF FUEL FOR ENERGY.

I DON'T KNOW WHY THIS SHOULD BE THE CASE......MAYBE MY BODY HAS BECOME MORE EFFICIENT USING FAT FOR FUEL? HELL, I DON'T KNOW, BUT I AM FAR MORE TIRED DURING THE DAY WHEN I USE CARBS.

I do not UNDERSTAND nor do I like this concept!
 
It takes a bit for body to get adjusted but definitely experience the same thing!

I've been told that I "look" much better when on a low carb diet ;) :)
 
This has been working AWSOME for me too Jethro I completely understand what you are saying about this....
 
JT, you know I have been doing this from day 1. I have always felt that way. Once you get past the initial drain of carb depleting, your body gets used to the lack of carb intake. My cholesterol is low, and my bodyfat stays low. I also do not get as sluggush in the summer months. Now when I eat a meal that has carbs, I litterally want to fall asleep. Glad its working out for you, after all I believe human being's roots were orginally mainly carnivores, not herbivores.

However, in another post didn't you just say you were eating Carrot Cake last night? YUMMMMMMY.

Meaning you should incorporate High Carb Days? I do that as well as have a couple fo cheat meals on teh weekends in the offseason but am disciplined during the week.....This has been workign good for me...

Would you say it's the best way to gain muscle though, or are you doing it because you need to lean out a bit?

Exactly.

Shelby brings up a good point though, do you feel it is the best way to gain muscle.......i think for some who have trouble controling bodyfat, yes.
 
OH, YES!

LAST NIGHT I ATE A BUNCH OF CARBS. I DEFINITELY REWARD MYSELF ONCE IN A WHILE. I RARELY KEEP IT LOW FOR MORE THAN A WEEK. MEREDITH CAME HOME TIRED FROM WORK YESTERDAY....CAME WALKING UP THE SIDEWALK, UNSMILING....I said, "ARE YOU HAPPY TO SEE ME?" :( LOL.

I then asked her when the last time she ate was...."TWO HOURS AGO"....Hmmm, I replied, you must be hungry! :confused:

[she's always hungry] :eek:

I went in the house after a few minutes......she was already laying on the bed acting all beat down and tired. I said, "I am going to the store to get some food, seeya".

In the blink of an eye, "Miss Tired" was up, had shoes on and was in the pickup. :ch:eky-sm

I wanted to get something healthy.......low and behold we ended up getting a big carrot cake. I told her if were getting that "you have to carry it up to the check out line"...lol.

DIDN'T PHASE HER........SHE MARCHED RIGHT UP THE AISLES WITH HER CAKE AND ICE CREAM.

Needless, to say.........I ate a bunch of it.

I think that as hunter gatherers during the prehistorical period, humans would go for days at a time with food sources they carried. Finding carb sources, finding protein sources. Rarely would there be lots of either one.
Looking at historical references on what was eaten during the early middle ages it is amazing the amounts and variety of meats eaten at banquets.
I find the lower carb days make me more alert and kinda buzzed.
Then the days I carb up make me feel slow, sleepy and a little bloated.
The next back on low carbs feels great and my batteries are recharged.
If you look at our teeth and digestive systems as compared to true carnivores and true herbivores you get the distinct impression that we are omnivores. Some of us just lean a little towards the carnivore side of things...
 
I'm with you 100%. Whether I'm dieting down or off season I use fats as my main source of energy. I still follow a high cal low cal schedule but I let the fats determine the calories as opposed to the carbs.
 
What does everyone feel about carbs being an excellent transport system for the proteins into the muscle and how many should be taken for instance in a bulking phase? I mean besides a Phosphogen -HP or somethign, I am talking natural carbs? Anyone see any difference between, carbs from sugar and starches in the transport? Yea I know sugar is less quality and burns up faster, just for sake of consideration?

I miss carbs.

Exactly how I feel. Better, not as hungry ether. Broccoli, green beans, crap like that...but, I actually think brocolli kills my appetite and that's no shit.

I eat that and I am not looking at my timer hungrily, desperately awaiting my next meal like I do when I eat more carbohydrates.

I don't wind down and feel shitty at the end of the day.

So, I am NOT going crazy! Plus, it makes working out more fun when I can see some abs and which muscles are working. When I am using carbohydrates I tend to not be able to SEE anything going on while I am working out.

I am FAR less enthusiastic when I am bloated looking. :)

when your lowing your fat intake and upping your carbs your digesting your meals at a faster rate and causing your blood sugar to flucuate . thats why your tired and sluggish
 
JT, I have been doing this same thing for months now. Like bulldog said, i have cheat meals on the weekend but through the week very strict. I have carbs in two out of five meals. But the amount of carbs in each meal is low. I have been lifting better, leaning out and growing. On the weekends when I do eat junk I do feel more tired but since I don't lift on weekends I use this time to recharge! So far this is working like a charm, so as long as it aint broke I aint gonna fix it!!

Hercsta turned me on to this same type of diet, which I've been doing now for 5 weeks. I'm with you Jethro, I feel great and I've been burning off the fat on it.
I've been getting my fats from fish, extra virgin olive, coconut, macadamia nut oils and ocassionally some natural peanut butter.

I have broken down a few times and had some bad carbs. When I did, I felt like crap the whole day.
