I guess Deadlifts will make your traps grow.

is there really a muscle that deadlifts don't involve? even my dy#$% hurts after a bout of heavy deads! just joking.
 
For big traps you need lots of hormones. :D

I haven't seen a single clean powerlifter with any trap development to speak of, and I know some who have killed themselves with deadlifts for decades. Some other muscle groups seem to grow a little without drugs but traps are a really hormone dependent muscle group.

As far as training, tension is king for growth, range of motion and all the other parameters are secondary, as LATS alluded to. Deads usually place the most tension on the traps.
 
If Layne Norton can pull 700+, why couldn't any natural pull at least 600? Definitely a goal of mine for the next 2-3 years.

Which part are you confused about? I have read from much brolore that the traps contain many androgen receptors. Pubmed even said that the traps have more androgen receptors than the vastus lateralis, but that might not be saying much.

Deadlifts and cleans have made my traps bigger, but I am far from yoked. 500 lb DL coming up real soon, and it won't stop there.
 
Bodybuilders that train crazy heavy also do crazy heavy schrugs... Look at Ronni, Levrone or JOJ, They are doing 600 lbs barbell schrugs and using up to 300 lbs dbells on top of those bone crushing deads... so I´m sure that every one of that super heavy movements played a part
 
I honestly feel like decline barbell bench press hits the traps as well.

I feel my traps working either directly or indirectly on most all lifting I do but I go heavy as I can on all lifts.

Most the fellas I workout with that have good trap development are also lifting heavy and intense with all movements and have years in the gym!

Genetic predisposition is a big part of it as well!
