Ive been working on a huge job here in AZ for the last 3 days in the 108 degree heat sweating like a pig, ive got 3 helpers working for me and im taking great care of them,,,, the thing is i kind of like working hard and making money ,,, its weird but id quit bodybuilding if i had jobs like this every week , the payout on this certain job was quite alot and if a job like this came up every week well good bye BB,, makes me sad but i wanna raise a family take vacations buy my girl nice things she never had ,,,, i hope i dont get those great jobs and my life stays the same but if it
changed so would i.

just made me wonder so much today if i could really walk away from this great sport , i still have no answer.

|--[\\\]>----------- It's nice from time to time to sit back and not have to plan your day around what time you are going to workout. Last week, i knew i wasn't going to workout over the weekend, so i took the whole week off and it felt good. Tonite, will be my 1st nite back, hope i'm well rested.

..

what do you do ?

also we get used to how we look .I couldnt go back to looking normal

might stop competing but never quit lifting

Congrats on your biz V! That's a good feeling!

I've missed 2 days due to my grandmothers funeral. Of course it's for a good reason, but I could never quit lifting.... I feel sick when I don't...

Sorry about your grandma

My Grandma passed away 5 months ago it was sad, but to answer your question wouldnt you stop bb if your salary was lets say doubled,,,, I wrote in one of my posts if somebody gave me a million$s id only train as a leisure activity and i beleive that could be true,,,, but as of my life right now bb is a great role and sport i love ,,, Im not sure exactly what i would do i hope i dont have to make a descision.

for some bodybuilding keeps them on track and keeps the drive to live and get better alive. for others its a job and a incovienience to do all the things like a robot to do a show. i myself was so scared on what to expect for my first show i ate fish and green beans for 6 weeks. and im talking every single meal. now id never go through that again, but i loved what i was doing and i was rewarded 1st place.

Now feelings are mixed for me because the money i spend on this makes me sad cause im missing out on alot of things i could be directing the money toward, like a IRA, or, down payment for house, or vacation plans. but no.i sit and suffer because of what bodybuilding is, for me i love it, and hate it at the same time, but i think theres alot more love. so i keep going on

I doubt u could walk away Vander. I think its in ur blood for life haha. Even if its as a leisure activity, i dont think u could go weeks without workin out.

Not meant to question you, u live ur life as u see fit but. . . it always seems the people with the gifts (your genetics in this case) are always the ones who take it for granted. Also is shown with pro athletes doin drugs, gettin arrested, etc. . . You have no idea how many people would kill to be born with these genetics gifts and would treasure them. Then again, the name of the game is to make money, and live the most comfortable and pleasurable life possible, so do whatever gets you to that point.

Vander V, I reckon it's normal that the mind wanders and wonders sometimes, but I think you're not one to quit the discipline for long.

For this reason I try to give myself a whole clear month off every year. Ideally this would be well spent if I trained hard up to it, not always the case. But I think most guys need a break every now and then. It's like anything, when you give it a bit of distance you often start to appreciate it again. Maybe you've worked at it so consistently for so long you've lost the "why" and it's become a bit routine or a chore? Give yourself a whole block of time off so you don't feel guilty about missing a workout, and when it's time to go back start off a bit lazy - just try and go in there and enjoy what it was that got you so keen in the first place. You'll soon be back into full swing I reckon.

And for the money? Nup. I like hard work too but I also like to have a decent work/life balance and have been contemplating "downshifting" (as the trend is called here now for taking a lower paid, less demanding job) to focus on some of my personal pursuits. Lotta studies I've read where thinkers try to represent the relationship between happiness and money in a graph. They found that when you don't have enough to survive at all, you're miserable (granted). When you've got enough to survive it's considerably happier than poverty stricken, but not euphoric. If you reach a state of decent comfort where money isn't a big stress any more, happiness goes up a lot, but then after that the ability of money to keep pushing the graph/happiness levels up started to level out. Many reported being happy with a huge increase in cashflow for a short time, and then adjusting and the initial thrill wears off. Hey, there's only so much you can do with money.

Interesting thread. IronMike

making money is more important

I was off four days in a row due to work last week, your not gonna lose muscle taking a week or 2 off, but If it came down to it which will probally NEVER happen. I would quit BB to make the bucks. After training for over 14 yrs consistant. takeing time off actually makes me grow!

Make the money while you can man

?

I guess im just thinking of the future thats all,,, dont get me wrong my financial situation is good but i could have the chance to make it great ,,,,, what does one do??? I guess my only option is to fully train someone in my work and have them run things,,, but i like to work, catch 22.

thanks i read all your posts and you all make great sense.

Bodybuilding

Very few make it great in BBing. I would get the business going. I am sure Wheeler, Francois, Long, JJ Marsh, etc. would tell you the same thing. Also, being great in this sport is more in your mind because there are tons of great guys out there competing for the top spot and the money. There just is not enough money to go around. These guys think 30,000 contract is GREAT but after it is over, what do you have after paying for supps, health, etc. And, what is 30,000 these deays anyhow.

YUP

I think I agree with you Phil,, $30,000 cant buy me shit after expenses,,, hell 30grand could never raise a family,,,,,,ID RATHER SAY IN THE END IM GLAD I HAD A FAMILY AND LOVE AND SUPPORT THEM RATHER THEN SAY IM GLAD I PUSUED MY GOAL OF BB AND GAVE UP MY CHANCE TO BECOME SUPPORTIVE OF FAMILY.

You know what theres no guys my age that really think like this BUT i think they should,,,, whats it all really worth??????????and what are the true meanings of life????????????

I love my work, and it pays amazingly well - i would say i'm overpaid, but hey its a free market. But money is no substitute for what i get at the gym - i need that stress relief and that feeling of lifting heavy metal, there is nothing like it. No amount of money would make me stop, I just can't, I need it too much for my mental health. The rest of bb, well that is all extras that I can do without, but chose not too for now - eventually tho, I suspect.

Anyways, keep liftin' bros! (I know ya will anyways!)

Let's just say I am close to your age, and I am totally on board with your thought process, and have been for around a year now. I still love the sport, always will, BUT.........

Well, I'm no where near as gifted as you VV that's for sure and I guess I'd say I'm more of an avid lifter than going for a pro card. I'm actually in my career and doing well for now so I guess you could say I'm in that position already and enjoy Natural BB as a love affair.

Remember along with that $30K are they paying for your health/dental/vision insurance or 401K or Retirement or Stock options or any other benefits??? In BB you're completely relying on your "body". Man, I remember when Berry Demey tore his pec he couldn't compete, he couldn't do photo opps.... Hence he made a total during that time of $0.00...

My suggestion, keep your passion for BB, but never stop learning and growing mentally, emotionally, spiritually, and physically.

I posted this in the Pic Forum

Life's a juggling act - bb'ing involves self-control, the ability to be focused on more than one thing. "Most" bb'ers are also successful at something "away" from bodybuilding because of their drive.

Remember, life isn't "what happens to us" it's "how we handle it!"

You can do it!
